GAMING : how to know if graphic card is really a pcie x16 ?

somewhere i listen a nvidia can be a x8 pcie !?
how to be sure, do you have a command line to extract this spec ?
i would not surf always to manufacturor card and find the specs
for a card !
i would like to know that, beacause, soemtimes, i think is not Linux
or "nouveau driver nvidia" the probl|?me...we can to be wrong if we don't
know well the specs for the graphic card !!!
