When I add programs to LM I get a generic icon that looks like a rocket
ship. Is there any way to change it to an icon that represents the
    program it's for? Thanks,

Desktop files, seem to be a popular way of defining a "recipe card"
for an application. Rather than provide an absolute path for
the icon, the icon may be named similar to the desktop file name
part and stored in some large directory of them.

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Desktop_entries

    /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

    "5.13 Icon path

The freedesktop.org standard specifies in which order and directories programs should look for icons:

    $HOME/.icons (for backwards compatibility)
    $XDG_DATA_DIRS/icons
    /usr/share/pixmaps
    "

That's just to illustrate where some of the moving-parts
    might be stored.

As you would imagine, if the icon part is "broken", then
some fallback behavior ensures something is displayed,
even if the icon isn't all that useful to you.

Right click on the rocket ship icon and select properties.

I have often found that after starting the programme a few times the desktp icon changes from the rocket ship to one aligned with the fresh insatlled programme.

Just create your own icon. Usually a png. I make things up with GIMP or go to:
    https://www.google.com/search?q=rocket&num=10&sca_esv=dfbdd65afbf56d41&udm=2&tbs=isz:i,itp:clipart&sxsrf=ANbL-n6UJYcgIA_7V09UuxQO9mPUCmbRug:1777293409731&source=lnt&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwib3OTyhY6UAxXIKVkFHZHHLd4QpwV6BAgGECI&biw=1120&bih=585&dpr=1.71

That looks like a wild link but it's just the results of a search for a line draw, icon,
    of a rocket.

    Or a simple link is : https://images.google.com
on the right, under the search box there is a drop down 'tools'. If you pick size=icon,
and type=line draw, you get more simple icons you can use for these launchers. I've got a huge resource.

Another location is simply /usr/share/icons. Using your file browser just search using
some keyword. 'Firefox' will return every match for every icon set you have installed.
You'll get way too many. Try to grab a larger one, you'll see the size as part of the
    directory location.

I don't know about helium but AppImageLauncher can integrate many
AppImages so the icons show up in the menu rather than messing around
with .desktop files. It will also handle updates if the AppImage has the necessary information.

It's an AppImage. You don't install it, you just make it executable and
click on it. It runs on its own. The top two on the download list are for
ARM CPUs, you would want to download the third one down for a "normal" x86_AMD64 CPU.

    You can go here:

    https://appimage.github.io/Helium/

and right click the Helium icon and save it to a folder of your choice. Create your launcher and click on the rocket ship generic icon and then
    select browse.

Browse to wherever you saved the Helium icon and select it and that's it.

some programs do not have a directory or folders. they're just an

I don't know about helium but AppImageLauncher can integrate many
AppImages so the icons show up in the menu rather than messing around
with .desktop files. It will also handle updates if the AppImage has

    Thanks! I will use it

I can't see any link to the .deb file

It's an AppImage. You don't install it, you just make it executable and
click on it. It runs on its own. The top two on the download list are
for ARM CPUs, you would want to download the third one down for a
    "normal" x86_AMD64 CPU.

Yeah, you can do that -- or use

    appimagelauncher_3.0.0-beta-2-gha287.96cb937_amd64.deb

Thanks. but I still don't see that link on the main page. they sure
    don't make this stuff easy!

It's the fifth one down on the list. The name is so long you can't see the important part at the end. Just hover your mouse over it and see if it's for AMD64 and if it has the .deb extension. (Assuming you're using an Intel or
    AMD 64-bit machine.)
