Sometimes i get half a dozen (or more!) separate update notifications a
day. Why doesn't LM store updates and send them all together just once a
    day?

Security is not a 9-5 thing, it's 24 hours a day and the sooner
an insecure object is replaced, the better it is.

Have a look at the settings, and some set of control options
can likely tame it a bit. The picture is just the defaults
in one of my VMs. It hasn't had any manual fiddle applied to it.

LM do nothing ! LM is linux mint.

but in the OS they are tools..i think is a daemon, a service in background...may be mintUpdate and session start (param|?tre) usualy
    are activated.

the system can not scan all drive in the session user...so, i think,
sometimes, when u are on line...we need internet :) so the system
do a requete in the official dep||ts softwares...is transparent, is
    a service in background...

i know, we don't have the same desktop...my desktop classic, nothing special...somme softwares...with the install os u have firefow,
    thunderbird, libreoffice...

month after month, when u discover the linux galaxie...so apt dpkg...
u change your ways to upgrade your os.

so, i never upgrade it. i never play with the system files...linux
is very secure, too mutch secure...so don't play with system files...
because this animal...know all...just change a permission in a file
system and it d|-texte it ! and i down to protecte your office...and
it's very hard to repare...may be linus how to repare his LINUX. :)
