• Gimp 3 released, where is it?

This week Gimp 3 was finally released, where is it in the Mageia
packages, I've had 18 months of no photo editing because of a deal
breaker bug introduced when I "upgraded" Mageia, and Gimp refused to be
fix it until / for version 3 was released. (using other software
    massively increased work flow).

I don't fancy trying the flatpackage or appimage versions.

There is source code that you can compile. The downside to this is
that it is difficult to update or remove the program.

Standard procedure in a case like this is to integrate the app into
Cauldron first, to get it settled and working there. The current Mageia
9 release will not update, unless 2.10 is no longer being supported.

3.0 *might* be backported to Mageia 9 if there is sufficient demand.
However, you should be aware that backports do not receive the same
level of testing that regular updates get, so it is possible that they
might break your system. Indeed, consider this paragraph, from the 3.0
    release notes:

"Unfortunately, these improvements break compatibility with GIMP 2.10
plug-ins and scripts, so some of your favorite plug-ins may not work
just yet. Since the API is now stable for all GIMP 3.x releases, we hope developers will begin porting their plug-ins and scripts in earnest
(some popular add-ons like Resynthesizer and GrCOMIC have already done
so)! On our new developer site, werCOve begun creating tutorials to make
this porting process easier rCo feel free to share with the developers of
    your favorite scripts."

    Proceed with caution...

Why not use it until Mageia releases it? It will almost certainly not
appear in Mageia 9 so you will have wait till Mga10 is released. Note it
is major change, and thus Mageia will have to make sure that there are
no bugs in the glue between the program and Mageia 10.
