Yesterday Mageia has launched the first public alpha test version of
Mageia 10.
Mageia 10 is planned for release in April 2026. ItrCOs powered by the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS kernel series. The new version ships
with KDE Plasma 6.5, GNOME 49, and Xfce 4.20 desktop environments.
The alpha release includes the latest KDE Plasma 6.5.4 desktop
environment for the KDE Plasma edition, which is accompanied by the KDE Frameworks 6.21 and KDE Gear 25.12 software suites, all built against
the Qt 6.10 open-source application framework.
While the GNOME edition of Mageia 10 appears to be Wayland-only, the KDE Plasma and Xfce editions still support an X11 session for those who are
not yet ready to switch to Wayland.
As we expect from Mageia the new release includes the graphical
first-time setup wizzard, to configure the system language, keyboard
layout and time zone.
Also included is the famous Mageia Control Center from where you can
manage all important functions like updates, installing extra programms
and add extra users.
The alpha ISO files are found here:
https://mirrors.kernel.org/mageia/iso/10/
You can use the IsoDumper programm to put a bootable version of the test
ISO on a usb stick. Just boot the usb stick without the need to install
Mageia 10 on your PC. Of course the alpha test file is not yet safe for
using on a daily production pc. For installing on your pc you have to
wait until the definitive version in April, when the bugs are solved.
