• FIRST time using any virtual system

    From Richard Owlett@rowlett@cloud85.net to alt.os.linux.debian on Sat Sep 16 09:26:37 2023
    From Newsgroup: alt.os.linux.debian

I'll be doing configuration experiments on SeaMonkey 2.53.17 .
It has been strongly suggested that I use a virtual machine.

    I'm running 32 bit Debian 9.13 on a Dell Latitude E6410 with 3 G RAM.

    What should I be reading?
What virtual system should I use?
I've used Debian since Squeeze and played with KIM-1 and S100 back in
    the day.

    TIA

I would personally use Virtual Box as that's what I'm familiar with. However
I feel like you will have performance issues running a virtual machine with
    so few resources.

Why is there a need to isolate the test configuration? (I'm not familiar
with Sea Monkey) I would just move my current config to a backup location
    and then start experimenting.

Performance per se is not an issue. This a go/no-go test.

It was recommended by a primary maintainer.

Definitely check out Virtual Box then, it's easy to get set up.

Unfortunately, 32 bit Debian 9 is not supported.
Updating has been on my to-do list. One reason was desire to update
    SeaMonkey ;/

A fair amount of housekeeping needs to be done before I can re-partition appropriately.
    I multi-boot.
I have 2nd machine available, but it is inconvenient to use.

Isn't the Dell Latitude E6410 an ancient(13 year old) 32bit machine? Hard to run a 64
bit software on it if so.

    Not relevant to this thread.

Though not a software person, I've been a user for >60 years.
