• Is Suse Leap 16 beyond salvage?

I installed it months ago, and had trouble updating. Set that PC aside
for a few months. Still just as bad - preloads ton of stuff then finds
some dependency that is not availabe.
So ran the migration tool and turned it into Slowroll instead.
Wake me when 17 comes out.

I haven't had a problem with Leap 16 updates. There is a weirdness with VS Code and some extensions so I have that locked a 1.127. I installed Leap
when an update of EndeavourOS (Arch) wouldn't boot. I don't need a rolling distro. If you want to roll the dice might as well go to TW.

    I don't have problems with Leap 16.0.

There is only a minor problem with some multimedia packages.

For 17 you might have to wait a decade.

    Why SUSE over Fedora?

I have Leap 16 on a laptop and Fedora 44 on a desktop -- best of both
    worlds.

Going back 25 years or so SuSE defaulted to KDE while Red Hat Linux
defaulted to GNOME. I prefer KDE/Qt to GNOME/Gtk so I used SuSE. Fast
forward, Fedora offered a KDE 'spin' and later makde KDE a fully supported option.

Fedora is a semi-rolling release and gets quite a few updates most of
which aren't important to me but they don't break things either. Leap is downstream of SLED and is much further from the cutting edge, which isn't altogether bad. Tumbleweed is a rolling release but I don't need the potential aggro.

    I don't do much customization so I don't see a difference between KDE/
Plasma 6.4.2 (Leap) and 6.7.4 (Fedora).

I doubt I have to worry about 10 years in the future. I'm fine with Leap 16/KDE. Fedora 45 isn't scheduled to use KDE 6.8 but it will probably push
it out sometime in the cycle. I'm not looking forward to that.
