Nicole Hollander wrote the single-panel syndicated comic strip Sylvia
for several decades, starting in the '80s. The character was all snark
about relations between the sexes and modern life. She was a writer, I
always thought she was supposed to be Ann Landers with extreme cynicism
as she was often depicted writing while in the bathtub while smoking and drinking. She could be annoying and funny but the comic truly pissed off readers who would complain to the comics editor.

Most irritating lettering style I have ever seen. No close competition.

An utterly unfunny strip as well, but I freely admit I was not in its
    target demographic.

Wasn't sure who this was until I asked The Duck. Then forehead-slap
    and "oh, yeah, that."

    Concur on all points.

Thank you for that. I had forgotten to mention her habit of passing
off stale and ancient jokes as if they were clever new material by
    her.
