Per the Mirror and other sites.

Rob Grant, who created the cult comedy-SF show Red Dwarf with Doug
Naylor, died suddenly 25 February. His family released a statement:

"With much sadness, we have to announce that Rob Grant, co-creator of
Red Dwarf, passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon (25/02/26), a great
loss to his family, friends and comedy fans across the world."

The extremely low-budget show aired from 1988 to 1999 on BBC2 then
further series and specials aired on the best of British comedy channel
Dave from 2009 to 2020. A rights dispute kept the show from producing
new episodes; the dispute was resolved in 2023. A Red Dwarf special to
be written by Grant was approved in 2023 but then cancelled by UKTV a
few months later. Grant had written a prequel novel with Andrew
Marshall that will be published this July.

In it, Dave Lister (Charles Craig) awakes from millions of years of
suspended animation (punishment from sneaking a pregnant cat onboard the spaceship Red Dwarf on which he works. Dave is the last hunman in the
universe and is accompanied by a hologram of fellow crew mate Arthur
Rimmer (Chris Barrie), Kryten the cleaning android (Robert Llewellyn),
Holly the ship's computer (Norman Lovett), and Cat, a sentient and very stylish evolved creature (Danny John-Jules.)

Grant also wrote for other shows on British TV and is the author of
    several novels.

My husband and I are huge fans. The song that runs through my head in
quiet moments is the Red Dwarf closing theme.
