I note that the Wikipedes' death list cites a BBC article as source (unfortunately the BBC is trying to make people subscribe to read their stories).
Colvin's being an unmarried pregnant teenager made her a less
attractive "poster child" for the civil rights advocates,though
I have read that Rosa Parks (before her own arrest) was on a
committee raising money for Colvin's defense.
Of course before either of them was Irene Morgan(1917-2007)
and her interstate bus case.
