The last time I was in this mall in Little Saigon was at least 20 years
go. I was with my wife, and we were shopping for vegetables and rice at
one of the traditional Asian grocery stores there. There was another a
place that sold 24-karat gold jewelry worked in the traditional
Southeast Asian style. Real artisan work.
I don't know what's left in there now, but when I visited the area
Saturday, on foot, I was in no mood to stroll around the corner and go a
block north along the sidewalk to find out. There was a knot of bums
athwart the path, and my escape route would've been blocked on one side
by fence and on the other by a busy street.
    Nah...
There was no fence around the parking the last time I was there, and no
jersey barriers. There was easy access from two directions then. Now
there's just one. Imagine if you were coming out of the shop in the
corner and saw a gang of drug zombies approaching. How could you escape?
That fence might make the business owners feel a little more secure. I
guess they're safer from drug zombies wandering into their shops now.
But think of the message it sends to potential customers. That's on top
of the message sent by the zombies themselves and the odor of stale piss
    that pervades the area.
How do they keep hanging on?
Imagine what it feels like to be a business owner here: You pay your
taxes, you employ people, you contribute to the economy, and you follow
the law, but meanwhile there's this throng of drug-addled vagrants
lurching and gyrating on the sidewalk out front. And get this... They're
there pretty much at the invitation of the government! Yeah. The same government you pay taxes to.
    The vagrants don't pay taxes.
    The vagrants don't employ people.
The vagrants don't obey the law or contribute to the economy.
All they do is suck resources, stink up the neighborhood and scare away
your customers. And yet you're told by the leftists who run the
government to feel sorry for them.
Then one day Mayor Katie B. Wilson has a press conference and says she's
done some "deep listening" to you and the other businesses and that
she's gonna do something about the problem. She gets applause from the
local media. She gets a glowing article in The Atlantic. (Socialist
    mayor to the rescue!)
But here it is, two months later, and she's done absolutely nothing.
    That bitch lied.
