    When Jimmy Carter purchased the teacher's union's endorsement in
    1979 by establishing the Department of Education, the USA was
    #1 in education.

    46 years and 4.1 trillion dollars later, the USA is #40.
    We are however, #1 in cost per student.

    You are right about cost per student, by Hundreds of thousands of
    dollars. You are wrong on the others. Last time I looked we were 56 on
    what we call developed countries and when you add in what we call 3rd
    world countries we were like 89 th.
