NEWARK, N.J. (TNND) u Four people were arrested and charged with
assaulting law enforcement officers during the lateset chaotic protest
near an immigration detention center in New Jersey, the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Saturday.
The charges stem from demonstrations outside Delaney Hall, where tensions continue to escalate as protesters clash with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents assigned to secure the facility.
"On the night of June 5, 2026, ICE law enforcement officers arrested 4
rioters for assault of law enforcement officers, obstruction, and
threats," DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin wrote on X.
"NJ authorities arrested a rioter who broke a car windshield. Assaulting
and obstructing @ICEgov law enforcement is a crime and felony. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the
law. Rioters will NOT slow us down and ICE operations remain undeterred,"
he added.
DHS also shared video of what appeared to be one of the arrests. The
footage showed an officer escorting a person in a set of handcuffs away
from the scene.
"If you riot, you will be ARRESTED," the post noted. "We will NOT be
deterred by these violent rioters."
DHS did not release the identities of the suspects who were arrested.
The detention center has become a flashpoint for protests against
President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, with frequent clashes
between demonstrators and law enforcement.
The demonstrations intensified in recent weeks as advocates said detainees inside launched a hunger strike over poor living conditions at the 1,000-
bed facility. The federal government has denied allegations of substandard conditions and accused protesters of inflaming tensions.
Last week, Mullin said "a violent rioter savagely kicked and bit" ICE law enforcement officers outside the facility, adding that the suspect was
also charged.
"The Trump Administration will ALWAYS stand with our federal law
enforcement officers," Mullin previously said. "Anyone who assaults a law enforcement officer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
