    Portland police say they have helped six girls who are victims of human trafficking, ages 13 to 17, connect with resources to escape from their traffickers.

    The Portland Police BureaurCOs Human Trafficking Unit found the victims
    during enforcement activity along the 82nd Avenue corridor starting on Wednesday, April 15, according to police.

    Each girl has been offered support to get away from their traffickers
    through city services and victimsrCO advocates, police said. The Oregon Department of Human Services was also called in to help reunite some
    victims with out-of-state families or place them into foster care.

    On Wednesday, the Portland City Council approved an ordinance that seeks
    to hold business owners accountable for human trafficking, drug
    trafficking and other crimes that take place on and near their
    properties, particularly those along 82nd Avenue.
