WASHINGTON (TNND) u An appeals court on Wednesday blocked a California law that required federal agents to wear identification. The Trump
administration sued in November, arguing that the law exposed officers to safety risks. Specifically, forms of identification targeted federal
agents facing harassment, doxing and violence, the administration argued.

A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued the injunctions. It had already granted a temporary administration injunction,
so the law would not take effect.

The judges decided unanimously. In an opinion written by Judge Mark J. Bennett, he wrote the law, oattempts to directly regulate the United
States in its performance of governmental functions."

"The panel held that the other preliminary injunction factors also weigh
in the United StatesAs favor," he added.

California lawyers argued that individuals are more likely to attack
officers without forms of identification and this creates a public safety concern. They also argued that states should be able to govern federal
    agents.

But the judges argued, "It is always in the public interest to prevent the violation of a partyAs constitutional rights."

Meaning the judges did not consider public safety factors because the
federal government would have to show that constitutional rights would
    have been violated.

First Assistant to the United States Attorney Bill Essayli called the
decision a "huge legal victory" in a post on X.
