In 2016 a 70 year old named Lawrence Ripple walked into a Kansas City
bank, passed the teller a note claiming he had a gun, took about 3,000 dollars, then sat down in the lobby and waited for police. He told
officers who he was immediately and explained why he never tried to run.
He had written the note in front of his wife after an argument and told
her he would rather go to jail than go home. The judge gave him six
months of house arrest.
Which, all things considered, was not the outcome he was after.
