USPS Inspector General Confirms It: Postal Facilities Botched Mail
Ballots in the 2026 Primaries rCo Wrong Dates in Pennsylvania, No Training
on the Wall, and Delayed Ballots Headed Into a Midterm Fight

A new federal audit has exposed serious failures in the U.S. Postal ServicerCOs handling of election mail during the 2026 primary season, including incorrectly postmarked ballots, missing tracking information, delayed deliveries and ballots shipped hundreds of miles in the wrong direction.

ProPublica first reported the audit on September 9. The watchdogrCOs
report is public: Processing of Election and Political Mail for the 2026 Primary Elections.

The September 4 audit by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector
General examined nine mail-processing facilities and 73 delivery units
across eight states between March and May.

While auditors found that most facilities generally followed
election-mail procedures, and overall processing scores improved from
the 2024 primaries, they also uncovered alarming breakdowns that could determine whether a lawful vote is counted.

The report found that management at 10 of the 82 facilities reviewed was unfamiliar with proper ballot-postmarking policies.

Thank Trump and DeJoy for making a mess.

Background: He was a logistics executive and major Republican donor with
no prior experience working inside the United States Postal Service

Controversies: His tenure faced sharp criticism and widespread protests
from unions and lawmakers over service slowdowns, operational changes,
and mail delivery delays during the 2020 election cycle and the COVID-19 pandemic

    Yeah, so???
Covid messed with All supply chains Eddy P, you TDS-spewing sinkhole
    of stupidity.
You can't reasonably blame trump or DeJoy for either one.
"The impacts of the pandemic on the USPS can be broken down into
    operational, volume, and financial effects:
    Operational strain:
According to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report,
nationwide on-time delivery performance for First-Class Mail dropped significantly (falling from an average of 92% in 2019 to 87% in 2020).
This was caused by a combination of record-breaking package surges and
severe employee absenteeism due to COVID-19 infections and exposures, especially during peak holiday periods.
    Package
volume surge: Lockdowns and a massive shift to e-commerce caused
package volumes to skyrocket by 32% in 2020. This influx temporarily
improved near-term liquidity and brought in billions of dollars in
unexpected revenue that exceeded initial pandemic-era worst-case
    projections.
    Traditional
mail decline: At the same time, high-margin First-Class Mail and
Marketing Mail dropped sharply (4% and 14% declines respectively in
2020) as businesses cut back on advertising and physical billing.
    Increased operating expenses:
The USPS faced surging operational costs due to massive increases in
paid leave usage, overtime, and the purchasing of personal protective
equipment (PPE) for workers. These cost spikes ultimately counteracted
the revenue gains from packages, resulting in an estimated net loss
increase of about $100 million directly tied to pandemic cost pressures
    in the initial phase. "
    And the lasting impacts were?
Ultimately,COVID-19 acted as an accelerator rather than a singular cause of the USPS's ongoing struggles. It permanently shifted consumer habits toward packages while deepening the erosion of traditional first-class letter mailrCopressures the agency continues to navigate alongside rising labor
and structural overhead costs. You can read more about the initial
scope via the USPS Office of Inspector General Audit on Pandemic
    Finances.
