This is just another example of why the USA under President Trump is the only free country in the world. Everybody in the USA calls Lake Ontario Lake America now because it's the law and Trump will see to it that you regret not complying.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

No, everybody in the U.S. does not call it Lake America.

That's an uphill fight. Years ago they renamed Squaw Peak to some unpronounceable Salish thing that even the Salish aren't sure what it
means because squaw is derogatory and all that. Didn't stick.

They also renamed a bridge to Beartracks Bridge in honor of the indigenous peoples. At least that one is pronounceable if not widely used.

The Navajo call themselves Dine. A theory is Navajo is Hopi for 'head bashers'.

I noticed an infestation in my tree that looked like tent caterpillars and went into burnt earth mode. Research determined it was fall webworms, a
fairly harmless pest since the caterpillars hath and eat the leaves in the late summer. I reading up I found it is no longer correct to refer to the

They're definitely late comers. Spanish to the south, Navajos and Apaches
to the north. There goes the frigging neighborhood. There are a couple of theories why they beat feet from Alaska but it obviously was global
warming. Or maybe global cooling. Or maybe volcanoes. Or maybe like modern
day Michiganders they retired and moved to AZ.

Land /sea bridge was open, last glaciation created reason to move, and
    they did.

Here's a brilliant treatise on climatic times and aberrant social

The greatest "unsolved mystery" of the American Southwest is the fate of the Anasazi, the native peoples who in the eleventh century converged on Chaco Canyon (in today's southwestern New Mexico) and built what has been called the Las Vegas of its day, a flourishing cultural center that attracted pilgrims from far and wide, a vital crossroads of the prehistoric world. The Anasazis' accomplishments - in agriculture, in art, in commerce, in architecture, and in engineering - were astounding, rivaling those of the Mayans in distant Central America. By the thirteenth century, however, the Anasazi were gone from Chaco. Vanished. What was it that brought about the rapid collapse of their civilization? Was it drought? pestilence? war? forced migration? mass murder or suicide? For many years conflicting theories have abounded. Craig Childs draws on the latest scholarly research, as well as on a lifetime of adventure and exploration in the most forbidding landscapes of the American Southwest, to shed new light on this compelling mystery.

The migration across the land bridge took place centuries before the move
    to the southwest.

The vanishing of the Anasazi is a puzzle. I've visited many of the sites
and it gives one a strange feeling. Of course the Mound Builders in the eastern US also vanished.

I had an interesting conversation with a ranger at Chaco. He was a Navajo
and his family gave him grief about taking the job. Among them it was a
    place to avoid.

Casa Grande probably failed when the river changed course and the
irrigation system failed. In the Phoenix area the Hohokam had a very large network of canals for irrigation. Some of them have been reused for the
Salt River project. The theory for their decline is the intensive
irrigation eventually resulted in increasing the salinity of the soil so
    crops no longer flourished.

The theories change over the years and sometimes are recycled. Cynically,
a new crop of archaeologists have to do something to justify their
existence. That applies to much of science as Kuhn pointed out.
