I've seen that act with the SUV and it wasn't in Hawaii. The driver's reasoning may have been 'Well, it's more compact than an F350 crew cab.'

The newer lots or older ones that have been restriped aren't bad. 40 years
ago many were very tight for my F150, and that was before pickups started taking growth hormones.

Today I drive a subcompact. The biggest problem is finding the damn thing
in a parking lot full of whales. I'd put a flag on the antenna but even
that is subcompact, barely a stub on the roof.

Back in the day a CB radio 108" whip would handle it, and still will.

That would work but I don't have a CB anymore, just a 2M Yaesu and that wouldn't be much help.

I knew a ham in Ajo AZ that had a similar antenna. He wasn't positive but
he hit something big and airborne with the antenna coming back from
Lukeville at night and figured it was an owl. If it ain't the javelinas in
the road it's the damn owls doing death from above.

If you press my subi's key fob open command three times
in a row, it will flash its lights and blow its horn.

    Much shorter whip, true.

That URL is returning an error at the moment but that that might be it. It wasn't a straight whip because whatever night bird hit it did some damage
    to the antenna.
