What???? You're getting smoke from American wild fires? You should
slap a tariff on goods imported from the US.

This shows some very interesting stats on fires on both sides of the

    @op here's another stat:
    Canada - Acres burned year-to-date: 6,949,797
    USA - Acres burned year-to-date: 3,853,513
If Canada's forest coverage is 3.8m km^2 and USA forest coverage is
3.3m km^2, the percentage of burned forest is higher in Canada than in
    the USA. Canada = 0.74% versus USA = 0.47%.

This needs a current wildfire map to go along with it, because I'm fairly certain the smoke that the east coast of the US is complaining about is coming from Canada, while most of the USA forest fires are in the western states.

https://fire.airnow.gov/#4.69/39.98/-97.17 is the current (and constantly updated) wildfire map, centered on the US, so yo ucan see that yes, the east coast of the US is getting the smoke from the Canadian wildfires (as is most of Ontario). The US Wildfires are mostly Florida, and everything east of Texas, but wind directions push most of the smoke to the southeast of the fires, so the areas getting smoked out by the US fires are mostly the empty land states.

Northern latitudes have shorter warm seasons, and different plant life with different combustibility. The frequency of wildfires based on growth is expected to be less. IMHO this graphic doesn't say much worthwhile apart from, more people = more fires. Better would be looking at how Canadian and US wildfires are increasing over time due to the effects of climate change. Those conditions that meant we should expect fewer Canadian fires because they were colder climates, are changing.

Also why does it matter what percent is forest? Tundra and grasslands have wildfires too, so why are they excluded? (Answer: Because it doesn't fit the narrative the creator was going for.) And they can result in very large fires (which explains the stat from another comment that Canada has a lot more acres burn).
    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/weather/canada-us-wildfire-smoke-air-quality-maps.html
Much of the smoke that has affected the Midwest and Northeastern United

The wall is a big help and has created jobs.
    Some truth:
    AI Overview
The federal government does not publish an
exact official tally of total jobs created by the southern border wall
project. Economic estimates and public contract reports suggest the construction phases support thousands of direct engineering,
manufacturing, security, and specialized contracting roles rather than
a massive, permanent nationwide labor market.
    Construction and
ContractingContract Spikes: Federal data shows border barrier contract
actions scaled up significantly with multi-billion-dollar funding
allocations, concentrating work among specific primary construction and technology firms.
Support Roles: Field operations involve regional
infrastructure teams, heavy equipment operators, private security
personnel, and logistical coordinators working across active deployment
    sites in southwestern border states.
    Operational ImpactsTechnology
Integration: Ongoing maintenance and installation of the "smart
wall"rCowhich includes remote sensors, cameras, and towersrCosustains specialized technical and electronic monitoring positions.
    Border
Personnel: Law enforcement staffing operates under U.S. Customs and
Border Protection personnel frameworks rather than direct project-based
    job creation.

It was not a "history of WW2", he wrote it in 1925.

I'm led to believe that his 1925 philosophy, spoken of in Mein
    Kampf, led directly to WWII.

That's an infantile over simplification of history.

Do you also believe that The Art of the Deal led directly to war
    with Iran?

Perhaps if Trump had actually written that book. ;)

Perhaps if you understood the use of ghost-writers to aid non-writers
    in telling their story:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_the_Deal

Trump: The Art of the Deal is a 1987 book written by future U.S.
President Donald J. Trump and journalist Tony Schwartz. Part memoir and
part business-advice book, it was the first book credited to Trump,
and it helped to make him a household name.

To inform the content and style, Schwartz drew on the
already-substantial archive of news, profiles and books about Trump as
well as interviews with Trump associates. When interviews with Trump
himself proved unproductive, the two struck on an unusual alternative:
Schwartz listened in on Trump's office phone calls for several months
to witness him in action. The experience was condensed into chapter
one, "Dealing: A Week in the Life", which introduces the reader to
countless boldface names and events. The chapter was excerpted in New
York Magazine to promote the book and served as a blueprint for
    future autobiographies.

    AI Overview

Several famous books linked to American
presidents were written with the heavy help of ghostwriters or
    co-authors, including:

Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy, Trump: The Art of the Deal by
Donald Trump, and An American Life by Ronald Reagan.

Key Presidential Books and Their Co-Authors/Writers

    Profiles in
Courage (1956) by John F. Kennedy:

Though credited solely to JFK and
awarded the 1957 Pulitzer Prize for Biography, his speechwriter
Theodore Sorensen did the heavy lifting on research and wrote the
primary draft of most chapters. Sorensen confirmed his extensive
    authorship decades later.Trump:

An American Life (1990) by Ronald Reagan:

The former president's post-white house memoir relied heavily on the
veteran journalist Robert Lindsey, who shaped Reagan's recorded voice
and diaries into a fluid narrative autobiography.

It was a strange situation. I've been in the part of the Owyhee where it
went down. iirc it was in '88, well before civilian GPS technology. There weren't many signs at all let alone a big one saying 'Idaho'. In any case
you can't get to that part from Idaho. The fish cops from Boise had to go through Nevada and backtrack. Lot of work to catch someone who might have
been reducing the bobcat population out of season if they were really
    Idaho bobcats.

I had one of my eeriest experiences there. I hiked up along the river on a trail. When I returned there was a jackrabbit head in the middle of the
trail. I mean a perfect head that looked like it had been surgically
removed and very little blood. I assumed it was a cat.

At the time there was a feeling around Boise that getting rid of Pogue was
a public service and he was really on trial for killing Elms.

Your insights and reportage square with my take on matters too.

Perhaps you recall the Ed Cantrell case in Rock springs, Wyo.

Pogue and Cantrell perhaps kindred LE officers to an extent.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_of_Ed_Cantrell

State of Wyoming v. Ed Cantrell (officially the State of Wyoming v. Edward Lee Cantrell) was a state trial of Wyoming police officer Ed Cantrell for the killing of Michael Angel Rosa, an undercover narcotics agent in Rock Springs, Wyoming.Rosa had previously been working towards uncovering the immense corruption in the city.

After only three hours of deliberations, the jury accepted Cantrell's self-defense argument, and acquitted him of first-degree murder.

Famed lawyer Gerry Spence won the acquittal of Cantrell in what was
    deemed an "impossible case"
    ...
Cantrell shot Rosa between the eyes with his .38 caliber pistol,
claiming that Rosa was about to draw on him, other witnesses testified
that Rosa had a wine bottle between his legs

Pogue and Cantrell perhaps kindred LE officers to an extent.

No, I didn't know about that one. It sounds messy but Spence's silver
    tongue saved the day.

I don't recall a lot of drama about Pogue except that he was a hard ass.
Being a fish cop doesn't win a lot of popularity contests. A friend wanted
to be a cop but ran into catch-22. To get a job you had to graduate from
the state academy and you more or less had to be a cop to go to the
academy. He took a seasonal job as a game officer and that would do the trick. He was amazed that hunters that he had caught almost with the
smoking gun would stand there and lie.

I'm not sure he was ready for law enforcement but the last I knew he was a
cop in a little eastern Montana town where breaking up bar fights and
rescuing cats were the usual pattern. Big guy and a former Golden Gloves fighter I think he had the bar brawls dialed in. Very laid back so the
    cats probably liked him too.

Some of my cousins were cops. Putting on a uniform doesn't change the personality. The assholes remained assholes, the nice guys didn't get
    bitter despite the job.

He later would get even bigger ink in the Silkwood plutonium case.

    Like children frankly.

It would be maddening on a regular basis.

Boaters and intoxication - another 100% decouple from reality when
    caught.

    ;-)

    Long as it wasn't Rosebud...

Rez action is super flashpoint crap and jurisdictional overlap.

Human nature is fairly consistent, despite how we'd like to think it
    gyrates at will.
