Amazing!
"Denmark is one of the rare European countries to publish crime data
by country of origin.
Somalis top the list when it comes to rapes, fraud, forgeries and
grievous assaults.
Palestinians lead in burglaries, blackmail and theft."
They don't just "lead" -- look at the numbers, compared to the average
of all Danish citizens!
What about correcting the data for the inequalities faced by these two
nations? A person born in Somalia or Palestine will reach age ten with
one-tenth the wealth of a Lithuanian, for example. It's been proven that
poverty leads to crime too? Why not subsidize them until they have equal
wealth at age ten and see what happens?
Wealth has more to do with effort, than one's country of origin. Take
the population of our country: There have been, and still are, benefits given to blacks in order to help them out. There have been many blacks
who sought an education or skill and are quite successful. There are
also a disproportional number who are not successful. For instance, the murder rate amount blacks is 9 times that of whites. Does that mean if
you are black that you are destined to be a murderer? Of course not!!
Does it mean if you are white that you are bound to be successful? Of course not!!
I have stated the following before, but I feel it is worth stating again:
The most valuable verbal lesson I have encountered in my life was at
Marine boot camp. "You can do more than you think you can. And if you fail, it is no one's fault but your own."
Some people in Lithuania earn
$1.00 a day for picking coffee beans, and that's considered wealthy in
Somalia.
I strongly disagree. Wealth generally comes from two mechanisms, either opportunity or inheritance. Yes you can find a minority of people who
managed to overcome having no responsible parent at home during their
most formative years, living in a vermin infested home with broken,
unreliable heating and cooling, a community where the only educational opportunities were at dilapidated schools with obsolete textbooks and
annual teacher turnover approaching 100%, no nearby stores that sold
anything more than highly processed junk food, alcoholic beverages and
lottery tickets, etc. In those circumstances, the only obvious way to
get enough money to put food in your stomach and clothes on your back is
via criminal behavior. Those individuals who escape that life are a
small minority. Generally they were lucky enough to find an interested
mentor who could guide them out of their circumstances (they were given
an opportunity). Unfortunately, too many kids in our society don't have opportunity to develop the skills needed to succeed in our society. You
can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
The most useful thing I learned from a 30 year career on active duty was
to volunteer spontaneously to do more than just what your orders
required and keep volunteering even as you get promoted and are given
more responsibility and more work. The only time I had a problem was
when I had the misfortune to have a fitness reporting senior (who
happened to be my commanding officer) who was openly prejudiced against
those in our command who didn't respond favorably to his ongoing
proselytizing. The consequences delayed but ultimately didn't stop my
career advancement. He ended up being disappeared one day at a bizarre
change of command ceremony that happened long before his tour of duty
was to end without his presence at the ceremony. (Rumor had it that he
had been told to submit his separation papers effective immediately or
face a court martial if he refused.)
