Get your facts straight . That truck pulled out directly into the
plane's path - no chance to avoid . The fire truck driver was given the
OK to go by controller .

It also appears the air traffic controller was pulling double duty as
ground traffic controller at the same time and had directed the
firetruck to respond to another plane with smoke or overheat odors in
the cabin, clearing it to cross runway 4 - then recinding that
clearance when he figured out a colission was likely. He ordered the >firetruck to stop numerous times but either the firetruck driver did
not hear, disregarded the command, or was unable to stop the speeding >extremely heavy vehicle on time, resulting in the incident.
It is also highly likely, judging from other reports, that the
controller may have been pulling a second shift (as 6 days out of 7
and mandatory overtime is REQUIRED of all ATC personell due to a very >critical shortage of ATC personell country wide.)
Those of us in the aviation community have known for some time it was
not a question of IF something like this would happen, but when.
After over 16 years without an incident in the USA there have been
three now already this year.
