    1981-01-01 01:01 ?!?

In this context, 1981-01-01 01:01 (often paired with 02 seconds) is a
default fallback timestamp or "magic date" hardcoded into Android build
tools, cross-platform frameworks (like Flutter, Xamarin, or React Native),
    and compression libraries.

When compiling Android applications (.apk or .aab files), modern build
systems frequently strip or zero out actual file modification timestamps
for reproducibility, security, or consistency. Instead of using the exact second the developer hit "build," the packaging tool defaults all internal files inside the archive to a standardized placeholder date.

    Why this specific date?
Deterministic Builds: Toolchains like Gradle, AAPT2, or various packaging scripts use a fixed epoch/timestamp so that if you build the exact same
source code twice, the resulting binary files match byte-for-byte.

The "Epoch" Alternative: While Unix time starts at January 1, 1970 (1970-01-01), some build systems or legacy software frameworks lean
slightly past it or use specific custom fallback datestamps (like
1981-01-01 or 2008-01-01 for Android's initial release era) to avoid
    timezone or negative-integer bugs.

What it means for the Usenet post:
The poster is likely pointing out a quirky artifact of the app being "LLM-built" (generated automatically by an AI coding assistant). Because
the application was hastily compiled via automated scripts or default IDE/framework templates without customizing the build configuration, every
file packed inside the Android app bears this bizarre, uniform 1981 timestamp-serving as a subtle fingerprint or humorous tell-tale sign of
    raw, unpolished AI-generated software .

The poster is more likely pointing out a new app for reading and
posting... but he keeps on posting from his own randomised
    software. ;-)
That said, you can get it from here the last version of Nereo and
    check it out.

English may not be your native language so I'll point out that this
is NOT the main reason I had posted this public service announcement.

And the fact I wrote my own newsreader doesn't mean I have to use any
other newsreader that I may or may not tell others about in a PSA.

The reason I posted was stated in the opening post, which is that
of all news readers, this one appears to be unusually well directed
toward *free newsservers*, specifically the list I had provided:
    a. Eternal-September
    b. Solani
    c. OVH
    d. TCPreset
    e. Paganini-BOFH

The main point being that it's a newsreader that comes out of the
box enabled for half a dozen free news servers, and, there was
a subtle unstated point was that I would expect (a) Ray/Wolfgang,
    (b) Benjamin Gufler (c) llp (d) Virebent.art and (e) Ivo Gondolfo
to check that the default settings are what they'd like them to be.

Maybe we can notify them to check it out as they haven't responded
in this thread (probably 'cuz they don't see it affects them yet).

That said, you can get it from here the last version of Nereo and
    check it out.
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/nereo/

Usenet headers are just wrapping paper covering the gift of value inside.
Don't believe everything that is written in the wrapping paper next time.
    :)

As for adding the value of the sourceforge repo, thanks, as I was getting
the information straight from the developer who had only provided the
Google docs links which I had supplied but Sourceforge should be a better
and more enduringly reliable source for the public service announcement.

I see Paul also kindly and helpfully pointed out the Sourceforge repo,
where my point in the PSA is that it had already placed buttons that
are set up for the specific free news servers, where I'm hopeful that
those particular news server admins will check that it works out well.

To always add additional value with every post to Usenet, here is the
original post from whence I found out about this brand new newsreader.

    Subject: NeReO 1.1 - a free, text-only Usenet reader for Android (GPLv3)

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THIS PROJECT
First of all this is an *Italian Project* ;)

I built *NeReO* purely for my own enjoyment. I'm not a programmer - I
actually know nothing about coding. I wrote it with an AI assisting me
step by step (Claude, by Anthropic), learning as I went along.

It came out of a personal itch. I wasn't happy with the only two
Android newsreaders I could find: Piao Hong's NG Reader Mod 17 by Alfio,
and Phonews (which, to unlock posting, is payware). I wanted a clean,
configurable, text-only Usenet reader, and there wasn't one - so I
    made my own.

I'm happy to share it with anyone: it's free and open source (GPLv3),
you can use, copy and modify it freely. If it's useful to you, that
already makes me glad; if you find a bug or have an idea, drop me a
line: half of what works well today exists because someone took the
    trouble to point it out.

    Usenet Still Lives! ;)

(all files are store in my Mega.nz account - these are the short links)

    NeReO 1.1 - Ne(ws) Re(ader) O(pen-source)
A free, text-only Usenet (NNTP) newsreader for Android.

If you read Usenet from a phone and want discussions, not a binary
downloader: NeReO does text only. No binary groups, no attachments,
no ads, no telemetry. Free software, GPLv3. Interface in English and
    Italian.

    What it does:
    - Multi-server NNTP over SSL/TLS with authentication (RFC 3977/4643),
    automatic IPv6/IPv4 fallback.
    - Threaded view (JWZ on References), plus sequential and grouped
views, and a continuous whole-thread view.
    - Scoring filter engine, slrn/Gnus style: contains/wildcard/regex on
    From, Subject, Message-ID, Xref and Body; per-group scope (wildmat);
    expiry; kill/hide/highlight/watch; kill-file import/export.
    - Posting: replies with quoting (four modes), crossposting,
    signatures, per-server identities, local drafts.
    - RFC 2047 headers, quoted-printable, base64, multiple charsets;
    Face/X-Face; ROT13; full headers.
    - Backup/restore of the configuration, with optional encryption.

    New in 1.1:
    - In-app language switch (English / Italian), so you can change the
language without touching the phone's locale - works down to
    Android 8.
    - Database safety net: if a future update or an older-APK downgrade
makes the stored schema incompatible, NeReO now backs up the data
and warns you instead of silently wiping it.

    Requirements: Android 8.0 or later.

BTW, Any comments and bug reports welcome

Thanks Paul, as I had only known about the original requests for beta
testers (which I posted just now in response to Qihe) on the Android ng.

As such, I was blissfully unaware of the release on Sourceforge, as
we were testing the version 1.0 code that was in the Google docs repo.

Your useful information, as always, adds helpful value where it matters.
    Much appreciated.

My main goal was to inform the free news server community, and particularly
the admins of the five news servers which are included by default, that
they're part of the newsreader setup, which I think is kind' neat.

    Don't you?

Anyway, let's hope these five admins check out the settings to make sure
those setting are what those free news server admins want them to be.
    a. Eternal-September (Ray Banana/Wolfgang Weyand)
    b. Solani (Daniel and Monika Weber, Benjamin Gufler)
    c. OVH (llp)
    d. TCPreset (Virebent.art, or just Vireent, as I'm not sure)
    e. Paganini-BOFH (Ivo Gandolfo)

Dunno if the other free news server admins want to be added though.
    A. Jesse (blueworld)
    B. ReK2 (hispagatos)
    C. Steen (sunsite)
    D. Alex (dizum)
    E. Steve (mixmin)
    F. Yamo (nntp4)
    etc.
