    That's called a vanity group.

You're not vain enough for that.

    *******

As an example, they made the group

    alt.drugs.jaguar

That's the nym of a single person. The individual
was such a prolific poster (sound familiar??? :-) ),
they gave him his own group. He posted 10,000 messages
in the group, most of the time receiving no comments.
At some point, Jaguar disappeared from USENET, and
somebody reported that Jaguar had "run out of money
to connect to the Internet" :-) And that was the end
of that adventure. However, the group remains as an
    "homage to the head-strong".

If you check your newsgroup list for

    adam-h-kerman

there can be three groups with that name in it.

You can go to the Hong Kong registry office, and have
your name officially changed to "adam-h-kerman"
and then you can take over one of the groups you find :-)
This is the easiest way to have your own group.

Various famous USENETters, other people defined groups
for them, with less than complimentary terminology.

And yet the administrators removed the Swedish Chef group.
    Go figure.

I think of you as Mr.Conspiracy , and you already have
    your own group.

Then why aren't there newsgroup names
    of famous computer scientists and
    businessmen and business-women?

"bill.gates" would be fun, if and only
if he wanna talk. "elon.musk"? :)

Wolfgang at E-S will permit newgrouping in the free.* hierarchy, as
witness my vanity group 'free.snipe' which, as expected, is proudly
bereft of new content. I made it as an experiment with Wolfgang's
permission and he created the group on E-S.

It's possible that he might permit creation of 'free.chang.man.wai'. Persuading Wolfgang and other NSP operators to create the group on
their servers is left as an exercise for research by a diligent student.

My name is not interesting enough. "940615" is better! :)

It's possibly related to a legend in Tioman Island, Malaysia.

You know better than that. Those were revenge froups, not vanity froups,
and there were six of them. It amused Ray to create three of the six. No
one actually despises me obsessively to post to any of the groups to
    talk about me.

    Just not feeling the haet.

Anyone can take over any group he likes with no touble whatsoever.
