Is it silly to ask academic questions in Usenet?
No, not if you ask in the right place.
Cross-posting is not welcomed.
How can I find my interesting B.Sc. degree that spans over different discplines?
Each discipline in your degree, has a group, if there is a constituency of people who have participated.
You could, for example, ask a physics question in Sci.Physics .
Cross-posting to alt.chemistry.drugs would be inappropriate for
your physics question.
For your Basket Weaving course, there are Basket Weavers out there,
who make baskets continuously. But there aren't likely to be a lot
of them sitting behind a terminal and posting on USENET, as they
are too busy making Baskets to talk to you. There is a commercial
enterprise back home, which sells baskets made by artisans in
the community. And you have to make an awful lot of baskets, to eat.
For your Velvet Art course, yes, Elvis was a real person.
Elvis entertained us, because he knew that some day, he
would be captured in Velvet and pictures sold in gas station parking lots.
The instructor probably didn't tell you why you had to
make pictures of Elvis.
