• mixmin's newsserver - no sysop?

    From nobody@nobody@yamn.paranoici.org to alt.free.newsservers on Thu Jun 19 22:10:48 2025

i've never used mixmin's newsserver for posting, but while it's still
    available that active link shows 39371 y /5812 m /6 n, 45189 in total,
and not only plaintext newsgroups, since "alt.binaries.*" for example,
shows 2567 y /50 m, 2617 total (low retention, neodome is more active)

it does seem odd that no announcement has been made about the sysop's whereabouts for three months and counting (steve crook, zax, is world
famous in the anonymous remailer community) . . . another well-known
sysop whose unexpected departure was confirmed thom miller, retro guy
of novabbs and i2pn2 (rocksolid) news servers, their announcement was
made and confirmed within a couple of days . . . but three months and
not a peep from anyone anywhere? that's mighty "damn peculiar"jtk/lhm

But in this case, you would assume a back-channel was used
to reach out to Steve. There are working comms, you just
can't see them. It means someone has a private email
address they won't be sharing with us.

I think Steve has a job.

seems that you would assume etc., but no announcement has been made, not
even a hint apart from sec3's post dated 25 april "...it's impossible to
know for sure what has transpired"; only evidence, not rumor, or fiction
but of course everyone is free to speculate . . . three months without a
trace and yet his (abandoned?) newsserver is still operational, as if on autopilot; he's either stranded, detained, gravely ill, already dead, or missing in action for reasons unknown or yet to be revealed . . . that's speculative not based on established facts or corroborated investigation

    p.s. gotta watch that "first-name basis" name-dropping . . . it's a flag

    The site is irrelevant.

These mixmin services slowly died over time after Steve reduced his
    presence.

NYM, onion link, mixmaster, m2n, YAMN, echolot, usenet posting. I do see
his server in the headers of several others so it's still peering.

based on these and other responses, it's "who knows" sans question mark
at least mixmin made huge contributions to the anonymous remailer world
