    I haven't done a thorough study, but white wine and sparkling wine are
    very good at getting red wine out of fabric. A mix of soda water and
    white wine works very well, too.

    I spilled some red wine, obviously accidentally, on the carpet a
    few weeks ago. I immediately poured cold water over it and then
    sucked up the mix with a Shop-vac. I repeated the process a couple more
    times to make sure that I had removed the wine completely.

    Traditional remedy I use when needed: salt. Spread a lot of salt (I
    mean, a thick covering) over the spill and press it down to ensure good contact. Then leave it for a week. Magic.
