As I've written elsewhere, anyone who believed that even moderate
drinking was *good* for them was engaging in a bit of magical thinking.
The message from this study is that moderate drinking, defined as no
more than 2 drinks a day for women and 3 for men, isn't particularly
harmful for most people. Combine that with the demonstrated health
benefits of resveratrol consumption and that still makes red wine one of
the less harmful alcoholic beverages that one can drink. In particular, resveratrol has been shown to have anti-cancer activity at every stage
of the disease, and this is welcome news since alcohol is a known
    carcinogen.

I think it was in the 80's when I first heard about researchers puzzling over the question of how French people had less heart disease than Americans in spite of a high % of them smoking and eating rich foods. Red wine was their answer at the time, though I haven't paid attention to whether they still think that's true.
Dan-O (I'll still drinks reds, regardless!)

Indeed. It's self delusion to drink for your health. Life is full of choices and compromises, but best to make the choices with reason - when doing a cost/benefit analysis need to be clear and not list costs as benefits!
