WWDC 2026 guests can attend special screening
of the latest 'Star Wars' movie
---------------------------------------------
Those lucky enough to attend WWDC in person will now have the chance
to watch 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' at the Steve Jobs Theater.
While iOS 27 and a revamped Siri will be the highlight of Apple's
annual developer conference, it looks like the Apple Vision Pro will
get some praise during the event as well.
Jon Favreau, director of The Mandalorian and Grogu, spoke in April
2026 about using the Apple headset to better frame IMAX shots while
also cutting costs.
He might do the same at WWDC 2026, as Apple has announced it will
screen Favreau's film on June 9 at the Steve Jobs Theater. The doors
will open at 10 p.m. ET, followed by an 11 p.m. ET pre-show
presentation about the use of Apple technology in the production of
The Mandalorian and Grogu.
This opening segment will feature an unnamed special guest. Given his
previous comments on the Apple Vision Pro in film production, where
he highlighted its ability to preview IMAX shots, Jon Favreau is
likely Apple's special guest.
"I could watch that take and see what people will see. That's a piece
of technology that existed without us," he explained in April 2026,
while discussing how the filmmaking industry benefits from consumer
tech. Still, Apple's special guest could always be someone else
involved in the making of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Anyone attending WWDC in person is eligible to RSVP for the screening
on June 4 at 5 p.m. ET. However, as Apple explains, theater capacity
is limited, so it will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Apple has already chosen its WWDC 2026 attendees through a lottery
system. Those who weren't selected can still see the movie in
theaters, albeit without the special pre-show segment. The Mandalorian
and Grogu has been available in theaters across the United States
since May 22, 2026.
WWDC itself, meanwhile, will begin with a keynote video on June 8,
where Apple will introduce visionOS 27.
