there's more process involved in that, so I'm proposing an alt group.
Yes. I understand that your goal here is to do the least amount of work possible. Let me disabuse you of that notion. If you want the group to
be well used and successful, then the proponent must perform real work.
It takes time and effort and more time and more effort. There's no
magical handwaiving shortcut.
I have no idea why rec.arts.anime.creative was proposed as a moderated
group, but if whatever the problem had been and if it still exists today
and if moderation is the best solution to dealing with it, then yes, put
a moderation team together and reclaim the group.
Please don't propose *.unmoderated; that's a bad idea.
If the group is to be unmoderated, you are starting from scratch. Your
job, if you intend to be a serious proponent, is to find the audience.
Because there's always a more generic group to post in, use the existing
group. The advantage is the group is already created on every News site
that processes the Big 8 checkgroups, which means that a user just has
to subscribe rather than requesting its creation locally.
rec.arts.anime.misc exists. Post there. Prove there's a Usenet audience.
There's enormous amounts of relevant content being produced on several
web sites, and I could seed the group by posting old articles from >rec.arts.anime.creative or stories from the popular websites reformatted
to Usenet-friendly plain text.
Please don't do any of that. The author gets to choose for himself what
medium of communication to use. Reposting someome else's story without permission is a lousy thing to do. Also, if the story were posted on the
Web, there's nothing at all wrong with commenting on the story in the
Web forum.
Usenet groups are for the Usenet audience, not the Web audience. Seeding
the group isn't useful in any way.
You know what would be useful? Post your own commentary on stories that
you've read and liked and disliked to rec.arts.anime.misc with a
citation to the Web where the story was published.
Tell us your own thoughts. That's what sparks Usenet discussion. Don't
repost what someone else created because you yourself won't post what
you truly want to say.
