• Firefox v157 How unfortunate

    From Dnews@dnews@triffid.co.uk to alt.comp.software.firefox on Tue Sep 29 20:28:50 2026
    From Newsgroup: alt.comp.software.firefox

    So Firefox 157.0 is released...
Updated and am NOT happy, what's with the round corners in the various windows/panes.

I don't want rounded corners, I like square corners.

Any known config to return to square corners?

    Thanks
    Dave

Not forgetting the effing round corners on the main Fx window and the
bookmarks pane are now occupying a few pixels of my Tabs below bar.

Off to userChrome to tweak again... If I can remember what to tweak :-(

Some sites have them, some not. Are they new? I never would have noticed.

They were square in 156.0.1 from which I updated to 157.0

Since the update I've visited a number of sites, and as they are displayed within the Firefox main window it has rounded corners.

I would have noticed before... As noted in my previous posting, the new
roundy cornered windows take some of my Tab below pixels, cutting off the bottom of the tab.

I've been to my userChrome file and tweaked a couple of setting to get the
    tabs fully displayed again.

I'm old too. Sad to see that you obviously don't have higher priorities
and more important concerns than the shape of the corners of your web
browser! I'm enjoying my old age because I finally realize what's truly important in life, and what's just not worth the time, energy, and
higher blood pressure. Things that used to get me all wound up now just
get shrugged off as too petty to even think about. End result: I'm
happier now than I ever have been. Smile, shrug your shoulders, and
move on to the things that give you joy.

A good user interface doesn't need to be replaced every year just for
    the sake of change.

Not every change is automatically an improvement, and sometimes it seems
that the people responsible for Firefox change the user interface simply because they can, rather than because it actually makes the interface
    better.

Fortunately, Firefox is still customisable enough to fix some of these "improvements" with userChrome.css.

And yes, tabs below the toolbars. Definitely!

    So Firefox 157.0 is released...
Updated and am NOT happy, what's with the round corners in the various
    windows/panes.

I don't want rounded corners, I like square corners.

Any known config to return to square corners?

    about:config

    set browser.nova.enabled to false

I just tried 157 in Linux.
I kinda like it.-a I've got that browser.nova.enabled to true.
Firefox now uses a lot of my desktop theme.-a Checkboxes are colored,
buttons have a purple border, active items are highlighted in purple
etc.-a-a If I change to my Orange desktop theme they show through too.-a I don't see that much in the rounded anything (except the buttons are more rounded).
I think the reason I don't like the tabs having all four corners rounded
is because they're supposed to emulate the tabs on a file folder. When I
look in my filing cabinet, I don't see any file folders with tabs that
have four rounded corners and floating above the actual folders.

As for the overall appearance and rounding the corners on other stuff
like the address field, changes like this just for the sake of change
are a waste of time IMO.

    Of course, YMMV.
