• Firefox 150 broke Youtube for non-English vidoes?

    From Mr. Man-wai Chang@toylet.toylet@gmail.com to alt.comp.software.firefox on Tue Apr 28 12:49:10 2026
    From Newsgroup: alt.comp.software.firefox

It really seemed that Firefox 150 affected Youtube, notably for Japanese vidoes. Even Private Window didn't help.

Not sure whether it's related to Unicode or non-English Youtube links.

The following 2 links should play the same video. However,
the first link didn't slow down Firefox, but the second
    one caused Firefox to freeze.

In the 2nd URL, you could not even highlight and copy text
once the link started to load. The whole tab just freezed!

    Both links feature Japanese text.

That second one works for 140.9.0esr under Linux - the problem is not

Very strange! Has the pref in about:config changed back from "Linux", or
    is it still the same?

Out of interest, what is meant to be the difference between those two
YouTube links? They seem identical when played.

I created a new profile (keeping only places.sqlite and chrome) and the
2nd YouTube (Oricon) link no longer freezed the tab. I then added back
all extensions, re-customized parameters in about:config, still no
    freeze happened. It's really strange...

Okay, I could narrow it down to prefs.js, something to do with disabling telemetry settings possibly.

That article mentions Mozilla-based browsers, Edge and Brave as being susceptible, but says nothing about Chrome itself. That would suggest
Chrome contains coding which prevents this condition, and the YouTube programmers only tested with Chrome.
(The bug has to do with the Like, Dislike, Share, Save, ... line
Youtube checks to see if there is room for all of the elements in that
line, and if not then it removes one element. It then recalculates,
restoring a missing element if there is room. Wrinse and repeat, maybe thousands of times a second)

i hope there were no evil reasons behind this bug, and that they might
not affect Web 3.0 and maybe 4.0.
