I have some issues with my BBird 153.3.0 app becoming slow on both mail
and usenet when it is asked to do things requiring server contact. I
have reverted back to earlier versions where I did not have the issue,
but it still is there for about a week now. Before I make any changes,
I am wondering if anyone else has been having problems? Little mention
of this anywhere leads me to think not and it must be my system, but if
anyone else has noticed this it would be helpful moving forward.

You tell us how many seconds it is slow by, and
    I'll play my "it's GLODA" recording :-)

You can watch these things in Process Monitor from Sysinternals.
That's how I noticed the stupid GLODA running just before
a USENET message was POSTed. It doesn't say "I'm GLODA and
I'm here to spoil your day", but watch the CreateFile/ReadFile/WriteFile
and you may see references to the GLODA database file. That's
how you know that GLODA has been summoned.

GLODA does not index everything in TB/BB, but it still may
get called when it isn't particularly appropriate to call it.

If you're not using GLODA, then by all means look in
preferences or whatever, and turn it off. I think the
    Quick Search works without that.

It may not be server contact, as much as it is what
you are about to ask the server to do. The GLODA could
be called, just before the server call. It might take
four seconds, that could be saved.

If I was debugging this, it should be obvious by now
that procmon.exe is my friend :-) This is one advantage
we have debugging such problems, versus our friends in
Linux land, who have fewer tools (that are as easy to use
as Procmon is). I just answered a complaint about BB over
in the mint group, and the closest I can come to helping,
is the usage of a Terminal launch of ./betterbird and
look for symptoms there. While you could attach an
strace to the main process in BB, that would leave the
content process unmonitored. Which may be good enough
in these cases. But strace is a pretty crude tool for
debug (I was using some variant of this back in my
UNIX days, and I'm not happy to see it as the only
    option available today).

FYI, BB does not have its own Usenet newsgroup nor a web forum. It is a
fork of Tbird, so it is discussed in the following newsgroup:

    alt.comp.software.thunderbird

I take it the error console in BB/TB doesn't show any timeouts.

    Yes, I know.
I posted there first asking if anyone was seeing a problem along these
lines, tried reverting to earlier versions, and yet the problem remains.
That's what led me to ask here, before making any Windows changes, if
anyone else had noticed problems recently reflecting what I've seen.
I'm trying to figure out if it is the Birds (I've tried both BBird and
TBird), if it is in Windows 11, or if it is just something on my
    particular setup.

I'm hoping to address Paul's response better today to see if his post is
of any help. It still needs fixing somewhere. Which reminds me of
something. I have another desktop and a win 10 laptop I haven't used
much lately and I don't think they've been updated. I'll see if those
    do the same thing.

    Nope.

    Nope.

Have you tried disabling any 3rd-party (i.e., not Windows Defender)
anti-virus? Many default to interrogating e-mail traffic (which is superfluous, anyway). The interrogation slows the traffic. You could
try to temporarily disable the anti-virus, or configure it to not
    interrogate e-mail traffic.

Are you using a proxy or VPN?
