In the last two sections, are some dialogs.

The first one, Dave is trying to get back into the
ship and HAL will not let him. Dave has to do a ship-to-ship

The last part of the transcript, is the scene where HAL is
being shut down by having some memory-modules unplugged.
As HAL loses his mind, he sings a song he was taught at the
factory. Then, the message the crew was supposed to get
when they arrived at Jupiter, starts to play (because HAL
is no longer there to stop it from playing).

The scenes where Dave is transported by the monolith, there's
no dialog, so there can't be a transcript. Eventually, Dave
returns to earth, as a super-being.

A later movie, plays with the idea. I didn't see that one,
not on TV either.

The Youtube selections, are just parts of the 2001 movie,
teasers of a sort, to sell DVD collections or whatever. I don't
think there are enough sections, to make the full movie.

It's probably best to see it in a facility that can offer 2.20:1 viewing.

the transports jam up. The very first tape you put in it,
and punch play, should be a blank tape or a tape you can
afford to lose. It might not be working well enough, to
be spending money on conversion devices. The heat of keeping
them plugged in, that power supply that continues working
(even though the transport is not powered), that seems
to keep the materials dry in there.

To capture video, you might have used kit like this.
But it depends on what software is needed to work the
USB end of this, whether it will work on your particular
Apple machine.

My other machine, has a PCI Express TV tuner card, and it has both
analog and digital capture options. I have a VCR, but
the quality of the signal that comes from VCRs, does not

It's just easier to plug your Panasonic Video player,
into an old analog colour TV set you kept, and admire the
signal that way. If the picture seems a bit fuzzy, you
haven't spent any money on getting a digital fuzzy picture
on your Apple iMac. The idea is, to view the content one
time, without fussing too much over the process. As the
fussing cannot pay off (the Garbage-In-Garbage-Out problem
of video as a hobby).

I recently had a need to watch an actual tape, because I found a tape,
copied from a video-camera by a friend, which is the only one that
contains some shots of my parents.

So I think I first tried the video recorder with another tape. I had to
find a TV set with a SCART connector, and found that I had one that just
by chance I did not recycle.

The test tape played fine, so did the actual tape. Just some bad region
with sync difficulty.

I then located a service that convert tapes to digital file: perfect.
Their machine managed to extract video from the part that seemed corrupted.

Now I can ditch my tape collection and two machines.

able to switch off the autonomy, grab the 3D controls and finish
the job manually. If you noticed it was going wrong. Any time there
are issues with thrusters as a ship approaches the ISS, it is blocked
from approaching the ISS any closer.

world is boring... and hard work for somebody. And yes, it
has A/B buses, breakers and switches.

What's the thing you fear most in space flight ? It's
the same thing as onboard a naval vessel. It's a fire on board.
You have electricals ? Then you have breakers and switches
to shut that off. If HAL9000 had caught fire, then there
have to be protective devices to help subdue the fire. The
design of spaceships, is just like the design of submarines.

is that the rubber parts, mainly the belts, turn to mush and require replacement.

Sure it is. Calling an undisputed classic of a film which uses pace and
tone explicitly to explore the themes in the story "boring music video"
does reflect a lack of willingness to engage with it properly.

However, I wouldn't recommend you watch it again as not all films are for
all people.

I find many modern film/TV titles extremely boring and satisfying because
they are far too superficial and treat the audience like idiots by being
very unsubtle with plot points.

Telling a really good story, IMHO, requires slow and fast, room for (mis)interpretation and ambiguity, and multiple threads working in parallel
and probably not in sync.

Anyway, the world is a great place because we're all different and have our
own views. This has gone a bit too far OT.

I still think it's a boring music video. It should not have lasted 2
hours. The whole plot isn't as twisted as other blockbusters.

Space is big, and travel times are long.

The movie captures that.

You have time to think about some of the thematic inconsistencies.

As for the notion of attention span, if you really had
a limited attention span and you worked for a living,
chances are evolution would weed you out if you weren't
paying attention. Imagine for example, you're a linesman
for the power company. If you really had a problem
paying attention, you'd be blown right off your ladder :-)
Problem solved.

As for degraded problem solving ability, yes, that's
going to be more and more of a problem in future.
And that's been evident for the last 15-20 years.
It's showing up right now, in our ability to
(re)design road surfaces in town here. And no, an AI
won't be able to figure it out, because none of it
makes sense :-) I can tell the construction workers
are enjoying themselves, as all they have to do is
follow the blueprints and make incomprehensible things.
They don't have to worry about whether it all works or not.

I'm thinking of my father record player. It used tubes. Made to last.
Wooden box. Alas, the rubber mat on the plate changed to goo while kept
in storage. Some rubber wheel inside near the motor developed a large dent.

Useless machine after that. But it worked for 40 or 50 years.
