Complaint #538 - shoppers beware- Safeway Calistoga Road
yesterday in broad daylight with witnesses:
"So, I went yesterday to buy groceries and one of the items was >>>>>>> butter. I got home and realized that it was 34 days expired.
Played phone tag with the manager Sandra yesterday and today I
went in and the other manager had no idea what was going on. I
told him I wanted to go to the butter to make sure that it was
removed since I told employees the night before that it was
expired and sure enough the expired butter was still on the shelf. >>>>>>>
It expired April 29, 2026!
Employees and managers have passed that butter for the last 35
days and no one has touched it or checked to make sure that it
was still good. This is a massive health risk.
Check your products before buying at this Safeway. They obviously >>>>>>> donrCOt have regulations set to catch things like this. If it was a >>>>>>> couple days expired fine minor error. But werCOre talking 35 days >>>>>>> nobody touched or checked.
This couldrCOve killed somebody!" - Bob, Santa Rosa, Ca
The rent is too damn high!" -Jimmy
that's just capitalism
Is that your complaint?
It depends on your taste for butter.
You would expect better butter service from Safeway!
Me and Rita get our butter directly from the Farmers Market, from
cows that we know personally, that are pastured less than one mile
away, and costs less!
That's capitalism. I hate that company butter! You call that butter?
That's not better butter brother! Think about the baby, Nick!

and keeping my two year old up. HerCOs so tired herCOs crying now.
Granted my home is only 500 ft from them but we are a working family
neighborhood and the floor is vibrating our windows itrCOs so loud!"

"Safeway on Mendocino Ave sucks. I work with many ex-Safeway employees.
They don't really say anything good about the company. Long lines and
the staff are rude and from what I've heard, totally under staffed." - Steve, Santa Rosa, CA
The whole world is short staffed be kind to those that have showed up.
"So, I was out running errands today and ended up placing a pickup order
at the Marlow Road Safeway because the three Safeway locations closer to
me didnrCOt have everything I needed.
Before leaving the Kaiser Permanente area on Bicentennial, I used the
app to let the store know I was on my way. When I arrived, I entered my parking-space numberrCoand waited. And waited some more.
Eventually, the app recognized that I had been waiting unusually long
and gave me the option to contact the store. While I was waiting to be connected, I spotted the familiar pickup cart rolling outside with its
bins. I showed the employee my order code, and we started talking.
It turned out that this person was the **interim store manager**,
currently commuting all the way from Clear Lake (if memory serves
correct) to manage the Marlow Road location.
That conversation reminded me of something important.
I frequently see people on Nextdoor complaining about customer service
at Safeway, Starbucks and other local businesses. Sometimes those
concerns are completely validrCobut please direct them to someone who
actually has the authority to address them.
The barista taking your order did not decide how many employees would be scheduled or hired.
The grocery employee bringing your order outside did not design the app, determine staffing levels or create corporate policy.
Frontline employees are usually doing their best to carry out decisions
made far above their pay graderCooften while working short-staffed and absorbing the frustration of customers all day.
I donrCOt know the circumstances that led Marlow Road Safeway to need an interim manager from Clear Lake. However, if this transition ultimately improves employee morale, store operations and service to the community, perhaps we can extend the team a little patience while they adjust.
By all means, hold businesses accountablerCobut take complaints to
corporate leadership, where the decisions are actually being made.
Complain upward, not downward." - Heather D., Santa Rosa Junior College
