When Jesus entered the temple in Matthew 21, cleansed the courts, and healed the blind and the lame, the young children gathered there began to shout, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" Their spontaneous worship infuriated the chief priests and scribes, who demanded to know if Jesus heard what the children were saying.

Instead of hushing the crowd or dampening their enthusiasm, Jesus confronted the religious leaders with a direct question of His own: "Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise'?"

By quoting Psalm 8:2, Jesus did far more than defend noisy children in the temple. In Psalm 8, David marvels at how the sovereign Creator of the universe ordains praise from the lips of the smallest, weakest human beings to quiet His enemies and avengers. In the Old Testament context, that praise belonged strictly to Yahweh.

When Jesus applied this text directly to the praise offered to Him by those children, He made an unmistakable assertion of His own divinity. He acknowledged that the worship coming from those young voices was not misplaced enthusiasm, but divine order unfolding exactly as written. The children recognized their King, while the proud, highly educated leaders missed Him entirely. God silenced His arrogant critics not with high-minded theological debates, but through the simple, honest praise of children testifying to the Messiah standing right in front of them.

Christ's death on a cross paid the debt we owe God for our sins (Colossians 2:14). God raised Him from the dead to prove this (Romans 1:4). This means God can now remain right, while forgiving our sins (Romans 3:26) and delivering us from His coming wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10). It's a free gift for those who believe in Christ (Romans 6:23).If you believe, call on the Lord to save you (Romans 10:9-13):
