The Historical Reality Of Genesis
1 Historical Nature Of Genesis
First Proposition
Genesis is the literal, historical record of the world's origins, not merely a future-looking allegory
"He answered, 'Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'?'" (Matthew 19:4-5, ESV)
Jesus Christ validated the creation account of Genesis as actual history that occurred at the beginning.
Second Proposition
The Flood in the days of Noah was a literal, physical judgment on the earth
"For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished." (2 Peter 3:5-6, ESV)
The apostle Peter confirms that the ancient world was literally destroyed by water. It was a physical event, not merely the destruction of political institutions.
2 The Biological Reality Of The Flood
Third Proposition
The Flood destroyed literal, biological creatures and human beings
"And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind." (Genesis 7:21, ESV)
Question
Did the term living creature merely represent institutions and governments that died in a Roman invasion
Answer
No. The Scriptures are explicit that the destruction involved actual birds, livestock, beasts, and mankind. To claim otherwise is to deny the plain language of the biblical text.
3 The Identity Of The Nephilim
Fourth Proposition
The Nephilim were literal, historical human beings born of physical union, who became tyrannical leaders
"The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown." (Genesis 6:4, ESV)
The Bible describes actual physical reproduction resulting in offspring. While they were indeed mighty men and tyrants of the ancient world, they were literal biological men who lived before the Flood, produced by the union of distinct lines of humanity. If they are a metaphor for future church-state unions, it is in type. Types don't necessitate denying the historical reality of the events. Once you do away with literal interpretation, the Bible can mean whatever you want it to mean.
4 Typology Rests On Historical Truth
Fifth Proposition
God uses literal, historical events to prefigure future spiritual truths, but the typological meaning never negates the literal history
"Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come." (Romans 5:14, ESV)
Adam is explicitly called a type of Jesus Christ. However, the Apostle Paul also establishes that Adam was a literal man who brought literal death into the world. Typology is real, but it requires the foundational events of Genesis to be true, historical facts. Denying the primordial history of Genesis in favor of pure allegory destroys the foundation of the very truth it claims to elevate.

Good News rCa
Christ's death on a cross paid the debt we owe God for our sins (Colossians 2:14). The proof is God raised Him from the dead (Romans 1:4).
This means God can now remain right, while forgiving our sins (Romans 3:26) and delivering us from His coming wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10). It's a free gift for those who believe in Christ (Romans 6:23).
If you believe, call on the Lord to save you (Romans 10:9-13).
