The lament of Jeremiah for King Josiah occurs chronologically after the early prophetic declarations of the book of Jeremiah, acting as a historical dividing line between the early prophecies and the later biographical narratives.
Jeremiah received his call in the thirteenth year of Josiah's thirty-one-year reign. For approximately eighteen years, Jeremiah served as a prophet alongside the reforming king. The initial prophecies in the book of Jeremiah, primarily chapters 1 through 12, capture the messages delivered during Josiah's administration.
King Josiah was killed in battle at Megiddo by Pharaoh Necho. Following this tragedy, Jeremiah composed a lament for the fallen king, an event recorded in 2 Chronicles 35:25. The book of Jeremiah itself does not record the historical event of Josiah's death or the specific text of this lament.
In relation to the structure of the book of Jeremiah, the death of Josiah and the subsequent lament precede the vast majority of the book's dated historical events. The extensive narratives detailing Jeremiah's persecution, his conflicts with kings and priests, and the unfolding judgment upon Judah occur entirely during the reigns of Josiah's successors: Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah.
The lament for Josiah marks the tragic end of Judah's final period of spiritual revival. Everything from the immediate ascension of Jehoahaz onward, which encompasses the bulk of the chronological events and court interactions in the book of Jeremiah, takes place in the dark aftermath of Josiah's death and Jeremiah's lamentation.

Good News rCa
Christ's death on a cross paid the debt we owe God for our sins (Colossians 2:14). The proof is God raised Him from the dead (Romans 1:4).
This means God can now remain right, while forgiving our sins (Romans 3:26) and delivering us from His coming wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10). It's a free gift for those who believe in Christ (Romans 6:23).
If you believe, call on the Lord to save you (Romans 10:9-13).
