Barbara's Cat wrote:
Daufuskie: Land with a Point
Pressed tar now stretches
where cow carts had rode,
hauling unstained thoughts
among once sacred oaks,
replaced by green mounds
where care-less players
bat dimpled moons
at numerous black holes.
Now-gone shade walkers
were innocent as the dirt,
never seeing a wire glow
until nineteen-fifty-three
nor hearing a wire talk
for nineteen years more.
That was me, my gift --
for them to hear distance
as near, unknowing
I was but a connection
to a path of annihilation.
