    Only the Lonely

    The man in shades
    strides to the mic
    and declares,
    "Only the lonely
know the way I feel tonight ..."
    " and ten thousand screaming,
    chanting fans wedged up against
each other in the hall all together
    suddenly feel so
    lonely.

Commentary: This poem was posted on aapc in the Sunday Sampler
10 years ago. It appears on the original, 'rough' thread, but was left
out of the Official Sampler thread for the week. The editor of that week's Official thread, Michael Pendragon, said that the omission was an mistake, but if so it was never corrected.

    Interesting.

What was Pendragon's excuse at the time?

Here's an example mentioning Roy Orbison:

The Everly Brothers continued to top the charts with a pair of
number one smashes: Bird Dog and All I Have to Do is Dream.
Problems, a campy laundry list of teenage woes, brought them a
number two hit. The charming folk ballad, Devoted to You, gave a
number ten hit; and Claudette, written by up-and-coming rocker Roy
Orbison for his bride, Claudette Frady, brought them a top thirty.

I was an Everly Brothers fan when I was a lad, saw them live in
Columbus Georgia in 1970 or 1971.

I discovered them in my teens, between their heyday and their comeback.
I liked both of their comback albums, EB 84 and Born Yesterday. "Always
Drive a Cadillac" is still on my huge playlist of favorite songs.
