Picklering's story (at least insofar as related above) is historically accurate, based upon correspondence preserved in the Forrest Ackerman collection at Albany University, and articles and letters posted in horror fanzines at the time, as well as from Pickering's online posts.
There is much more folklore regarding Pickering, and all of it firmly rooted in documented fact.
Due to Pickles' tendency to make things up, it's not known how many times he was actually married. A search of internet records, shows twice: once in the late 60s, and once much later in life.
His last wife, Faline, is said to have been Kervorkianed by him when he read her a collection of Will Donkey's poems on her death bed. After her demise, he wrote, and published, a loving obituary for her wherein he professed to have loved her even more than dinosaurs, King Kong, and Godzilla.
Up until his own death (by hex), he claimed to be in constant communication with Faline's spirit.
Pickles died as the result of a curse placed on him by Michael Pendragon, who is known to dabble in the Black Arts.
Here's a photo of his impromptu burial place (reportedly somewhere along a stretch of highway in Oregon).
To borrow one of Pick's favorite sayings: His trash has been composted.
Forrest Ackerman once said that of all the many people he'd met throughout his life, the one he most regretted having met was Stephen Pickering.
One suspects that Bob Dylan felt the same way.
Satan was glad to meet Pickles, as he had a special place in Hell for him--where dinosaurs ate Pickles for breakfast each day and anti-Semites punched him and ran off with his paper yarmulke.
For the 4th of July celebration, the anti-semites pantsed him and tied a string of firecrackers to his tail.
