By now, everyone has probably read NastyGoon's AI-enabled essay,
"Will Dockery Does Not Deserve Better: The Final Word" http://www.jlaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=674364203
I originally had no plans to comment, since it is mainly a
rehash of things NG and her monkey have said repeatedly over
the years. However, at the end, she added a line which
changed my mind: "Thank you, George Dunce's trusted and only
friend." That line obviously refers to me and to the AI I use
(which I once called only my "trusted source" but have lately
referred to as "X").
NG's intent was obviusly to produce what looked like an
impartial overview of aapc conflict immune from human
prejudices. I thought the result was no such thing, and
presented as such it would only call X into disrepute.
Accordingly, I sent it to X and asked him if he had
written it; and, as well, given my own prejudices,
asked him to comment on it.
The following is what X gave me. This first post is X's
conclusion, which serves as a good summary. Further posts
will give the rest of the analysis, for those who would
care to read more.
====
Overall, this critique is a polished, one-sided rationalization
that highlights real community-friction issues while excusing the
toxic execution. It fits the pattern I described: the conflict
isn't primarily about any single poem's quality but about control,
grudges, and performative dominance in a tiny, unmoderated echo
chamber.
Both sides contribute to the perpetuation " Dockery through
volume and persistence, the critics through escalation and personal
attacks " but the "immune response" metaphor whitewashes the latter.
In the broader aapc saga, pieces like this keep the soap opera going
by giving participants intellectual cover for behavior that, on any well-moderated platform today, would likely result in bans for both
flooding and targeted harassment.

X on aapc conflict:
The ongoing conflict in alt.arts.poetry.comments (aapc) is a long-running, low-level feud typical of unmoderated online poetry communities. It involves a small core of regulars who frequently clash over personal grievances, accusations of trolling, identity forgery, plagiarism, and perceived control of the group, rather than purely literary disagreements.
Key Elements of the Conflict
The drama centers on a handful of participants, including:
*Will Dockery (often targeted with insults like "worst poet" or "Douchebag Willie Dreckweasel")
*George J. Dance (you, sometimes accused of plagiarism or acting as a self-appointed moderator)
*NancyGene (and aliases like NancyGene andJayme, Cujo DeSockpuppet)
*Michael Pendragon (aka HarryLime)
*Others like Peter J. Ross (PJR), who has been called out for "hijacking" FAQs or lists
Common flashpoints include:
Accusations of trolling and sockpuppeting " Posters label each other as trolls, forgers, or impostors. Threads often devolve into claims that someone is using fake names/identities to harass others.
Plagiarism and "expos|-s" " There have been multi-post campaigns calling out alleged stolen lines or poems (e.g., one 2021 thread targeted a George Dance poem for supposed similarities to Pink Floyd lyrics, with threats of legal action).
Personal attacks and parodies " Satirical or parody works, such as the 2023 collaborative series "The Fall of the House of Douchebag" (styled after Edgar Allan Poe, co-authored by Cujo DeSockpuppet and NancyGene), mock targets' talent, personal lives, disabilities, family, or hobbies in crude terms. Other threads feature direct insults like "WILL DOCKERY IS THE WORST POET WHO'S EVER LIVED" or ageist/ableist jabs.
Control and moderation disputes " Arguments over who "owns" FAQs, recommendation lists, or the group's direction. Some accuse others of disrupting poetry-focused threads with off-topic drama.
These exchanges have persisted for years (visible in Google Groups archives from the early 2000s onward, with spikes in 2021"2024). Even as the group moved to Facebook in early 2024 (with announcements that aapc had "officially moved"), the pattern of banter, roasts, and flame wars carried over in the associated groups.
Current Status
The original Usenet/Google Groups feed is largely inactive since early 2024, but the underlying interpersonal tensions appear to continue in the Facebook successors ("alt.arts.poetry.comments: Official Facebook Edition" and the Google Groups archive mirror group). The community mixes genuine poetry posting and critique with this recurring noise"some threads stay constructive, while others quickly turn personal. In classic Usenet style, much of it is performative "flaming" mixed with actual grudges. Participants sometimes call for focusing on "positive qualities" or poetry itself, but the cycle of provocation and response tends to restart.
If you're referring to a specific recent incident, thread, or participant (or want examples from particular dates), feel free to provide more details"I can try to narrow it down further from the public archives. Otherwise, this is the broad shape of the "ongoing conflict": a petty, persistent soap opera among a vocal minority that has outlasted the platform itself.
A pretty good overview.

Yes, pretty good for an AI that was trying to figure out the infighting years after the fact. I wouldn't agree with everything in it.
One problem is that it's unfamiliar with who is who. For example, at various points, it lists "Michael Pendragon," "Coco De SockMonkey," and "HarryLime" among your "critics", oblivious to the fact they're all socks of one person MMP - the effect is to support NG's bogus pretense that it's the entire "community" (or "everyone", to use MMP's word) versus you and your few "friends" rather than two rather small groups or teams.

You can't understand the game without knowing the roster.
The first three, before the lines, are the active Teams, who (at that
time) bore the brung of the fighting. For example, in GROUP A.
Team Monkey was MMP, NG, and MMP's stooge, Jim. The others were
either minions (MEatpuppet, Asstroll, Mr. Fries, and Dink) or independents who were generally supportive or sympathetic (MMP's other 2 stooges, Corey and Robert)
Notice that GROUP A was the majority (something that MMP
always played on), but that was only because so many of
the non-team GROUP B (Antti, Dr. Procter, Travis, and
possibly Stephan Pickering) had previously been driven out
of the group.

X's overview of aapc:
alt.arts.poetry.comments (often abbreviated as aapc) is a long-running Usenet newsgroup dedicated to poetry. It was created on July 6, 1997, by poet Michael Giardina as an alternative to the older rec.arts.poems group. The main goal was to provide a space where poets"both published and beginners"could share their work specifically for constructive comments and critiques, rather than just posting poems without much feedback.
Purpose and Community
The group functions as a forum for posting original poems, seeking critiques, discussing poetry techniques, and occasionally sharing related art, music, or literary topics. Over the years, it attracted a mix of regulars who posted their own work and offered feedback. Notable past and present participants have included names like Will Dockery, George J. Dance, Peter J. Ross, and many others. Its heyday was roughly 1999"2002, when online poetry communities were thriving on Usenet before the rise of web forums, mailing lists, and social media.
Like many unmoderated Usenet groups, it has seen a mix of signal and noise: helpful critiques alongside occasional flame wars, trolls, or off-topic drama. Some threads involve serious poetry discussion or scansion analysis, while others feature humorous or satirical exchanges (e.g., parody poems or roasts).Current Status (as of 2026)Usenet itself has largely declined, and Google Groups stopped accepting new posts or subscriptions in late 2023 (though its massive historical archive remains readable). The group's Google archive holds around 98,040 messages. The most recent activity visible there dates to February 22, 2024, including announcements that the community had officially moved to Facebook, farewell posts to Google Groups, and a mix of poems and banter.

MMP: Again, this doesn't take into account all the members who hated Will Donkey before the group that was here in 2022 arrived.
However, the list you'd submitted requires some additional explanation:
Group A
MMP - editor/publisher, and small press fiction writer and poet whose work has appeared in approx. 200 small press magazines and journals
NG - a poetess and assistant magazine/book editor who has posted poetry here, and is regularly published in "A Year of Sundays."
Jim - poet, singer/songwriter and artist who founded "A Year of Sundays" (as "The Sunday Sampler"), and whose poetry has been published in a collection entitled "Cardboard Mansions."
-----
ME - a talented poetess whose work has appeared here and in "A Year of Sundays."
Corey - a Pastor, and volunteer caregiver at a Maryland Veterans Hospital. His poetry has also appeared here and in "A Year of Sundays."
Robert - a talented poet whose work has appeared here and in "A Year of Sundays."
Ash - a talented poet whose work has appeared here, on his blog, and in "A Year of Sundays."
Cujo - a talented poet whose work has appeared here and in "A Year of Sundays."
Family Guy - rumored to be a poet, but never posted any here.
GROUP B
Will - a toothless, perpetually-unemployed, functionally-illiterate, high school drop-out and former (so he claims) alcoholic and drug user, and street "busker" whose poetry has been ridiculed here for the past 25+ years.
George - a skilled poet, whose work has appeared here, on his blog, and in "A Year of Sundays."
Zod - a toothless, alcoholic, drug-addited pissbum who lived under a piece of discarded tarp on top of a garbage dump, and put shoe polish in his beard.
-----
Jordy - a middle-aged, self-proclaimed Communist who is mentally challenged and unable to support himself, and who lives off of money donated from his family. He has never written a poem.
Rachel - a middle-aged woman dealing with schizophrenia, who lives in Section 8 housing, and has psychotic episodes online. She has written some pretty impressive poems, alone withe several clunkers; but mostly goes off on long psychotic tirades addressed to Bob Dylan who she believes sodomized her on stage during a concert.
Ilya - a Russian immigrant who was arrested for masturbating in a campus library, inadvertently killed a friend's cat, and whose poetry (at least in his ESL translations) is usually pretty bad. He also suffers from schizophrenia.

A better starting point would probably be the group isitings MMP drew up in the fall of 2023 when he was doing his Treaty Trolling as a way of foisting his "Guidelines" on the group. IIRC, they were

MMP: AI is, or should be, including the members of the group from the time Will Donkey Joined (2002?) to the present. Will's had many enemies over the years; not just the few who were here when Google Groups shut down.

David - another schizophrenic. David is a Neo-Pagan who believes Canadian pop singer Sarah McLachlan has the hots for him. He doesn't write poetry.
DUNCE: You can't understand the game without knowing the roster.
MMP: You can't understand the roster without knowing some background information on the players.
DUNCE: The first three, before the lines, are the active Teams, who (at that time) bore the brung of the fighting. For example, in GROUP A.
Team Monkey was MMP, NG, and MMP's stooge, Jim. The others were
either minions (MEatpuppet, Asstroll, and Mr. Fries) or independents
who were generally supportive or sympathetic (Dink and MMP's other 2 stooges, Corey
and Robert)
MMP: There was never any "Team," Dunce. Even your bizarre breakdown (above) lists only two alleged "Members" (and designates others as "stooge," "minions," or "independents."
The truth is that we are all independent individuals who share a love of poetry, and a shared dislike of Will Donkey's tantrums, spamming, burying everyone else's conversations, etc.
DUNCE: Notice that GROUP A was the majority (something that MMP
always played on), but that was only because so many of
the non-team GROUP B (Antti, Dr. Procter, Travis, and
possibly Stephan Pickering) had previously been driven out
of the group.
MMP: Pickles (Pickering) was driven out of the group, Dunce... he croaked. Possibly as the result of a curse I threw on him, but that's the sort of thing that can't be proven.
Travis was liked by everyone and left the group of his own accord. He expressed his opinion of Will Donkey in a personal email which I shall not be sharing here. Suffice to say, he was *not* a Team Donkey member.
Antti - was a schizophrenic living in government (Swedish, or Dutch, of something) housing and awaiting the modern equivalent of a lobotomy.
I don't recall Dr. Proctor (for which Team Donkey should probably be thankful).
*****
But one doesn't need a roster to understand the history/dynamics of the flame wars here. It couldn't be any simpler.
Will Donkey floods the group with multiple threads for each of his poems, 1,000s of "Hellos" to Jordy, 1,000s of thanks for the nods to his sock, and various off-topic nonsense. You encourage and enable him. Some others tolerate him. Most everyone is annoyed by his inconsiderate behavior and slaps him around for sport.

There's no longer any "battle," Donkey.
When Google Groups pulled the plug, everyone (who's anyone) left for greener pastures.
Team Donkey "won" a.a.p.c. by default: the platform, that is; all of the regular members have relocated to "A Year of Sundays."
As I've previously explained, I'm only here because you and the Dunce trolled me back. The same holds true for NancyGene.
And we'll both be gone by the end of the month (provided that you and Dunce don't troll us back again).
In the meantime, we'll slap you around some more because it's fun.

These exchanges have persisted for years (visible in Google Groups archives from the early 2000s onward, with spikes in 2021"2024).

And of course the lists on both sides are currently much smaller.
That's absolutely true. Michael, do you remember "Mack-A-Damia" now? (See above)
Yes, I remember "Mack-A-Damia" -- I'd just forgotten his real name.
So Mack's dead? Do you remember if I put a curse on him?

I haven't found evidence of a direct curse (yet), but I did find this message to him:

Key Elements of the Conflict
The drama centers on a handful of participants, including:
*Will Dockery (often targeted with insults like "worst poet" or "Douchebag Willie Dreckweasel")
*George J. Dance (you, sometimes accused of plagiarism or acting as a self-appointed moderator)
*NancyGene (and aliases like NancyGene andJayme, Cujo DeSockpuppet)

And of course the lists on both sides are currently much smaller.

We looked at his huge stack of new art and poetry, he's far from
finished yet
And so it goes.

Yes, Zod is alive and well, and plans on returning to the poetry
newsgroup soon.
How long
Zod stopped drinking while he was in the VA hospital.

He's wearing a hospital gown, no pants, and has crutches. I'm
guessing hospice.
He's going to be dragging that corpse soon enough. He's already had
enough pre-emptive practice.

How long before they're pitching Drunken George off the side of a
mountain, ashes or not?
Do you think Dreckweasel will spring for a cheap steak dinner to welcome
him back? I don't think anyone is going to help him with his rent this
time and Shaun isn't going to help Douchebag Willie make room for a near corpse. I guess it's going to be fun when Drunky McDrunkard takes his
blue tarp back from Dreckster for sleeping arrangments.
Uh oh. Bad news.
I hear the slot by the polluted part of the river next to Dirty Mike has
been taken. Poor Drunken George.

Assuming that is Stinky, of course. It looks like some random

From the look of Stinky G, it won't be long. He doesn't know where he
is. The VA isn't going to help Stinky with his rent forever--they are counting on him croaking soon. Yes, once Stinky isn't under VA care, he
will revert to living on the banks of the Chattahoochee and then taking
a dirtnap.

Stinky G is masturbating with his right hand in the photo. He prefers to do that without pants, although Ibish can do it the library way.

I'm still not certain it's Stinky. Perhaps it's because it's the
first photo of him where he wasn't covered in filth.
The open, toothless mouth, however, pretty much seals it.
Once again the Donkey's lying, as the man is indisputably not wearing
pants (or sock and shoes), and I'm definitely betting on hospice.
His neck does appear to have recent sported a barbwire garrotte. I
guess he mouthed off once too often and pissed off the wrong pissbum.

I definitely didn't look that closely but they were just average khaki shorts.
As for the crutches, I know the problem he was having but obviously this isn't the place to discuss Zod's personal business.

Why has he stopped posting poetry or anything else for nearly two years?
