was much less mature, and spent most my time on various efnet channels and mailing lists you can probably guess about and be right.
I won't get much more specific than that since despite time and age, I have seen various scene people still living beefs with each other. I will offer that I never snitched on anyone or shared other people's 0-day in any capacity
which seems to have happened a lot more than I would have imagined at the time
and is the core of the continuing beefs I've witnessed. But also I don't need
to live down the awkwardness of my teenage years :)

I do not want to provide specifics. I had already stopped using Usenet
over 20 years ago before coming back.)
I was more of a lurker, and even if I said anything, no one would
remember me. (And, of course, I am using a different handle. (Even
though I used different handles depending on what I was )
I am happy to see Usenet is still alive even if it feels like it is
barely holding on. Just wanted to stop in to let you know that lurkers

This morning it dawned on me that I was a frequent reader but rarely posted this means that with a little work I could be a 3 decade usenet user who was most active in 2026.
Maybe if we post enough we can bring usenet into a revival, if not it'll
be pretty easy to claim the distinction of being the last on-topic poster
of a number of groups. The usenet archives will be historically important
in the future, they're really not that big a lot of places so chances are good that whatever we post now might be read by people hundreds of
years into the future. Kinda cool.
Finally, it's easy to think of usenet as dead but a number of groups are getting probably the same sort of posting volume that they were getting
in the 80s and according to some metrics I've seen somewhere, it's
trending up but most people get access, make a bunch of posts and
bounce off presumably because nobody is responding. I think the interest
is generally there but not at a volume that can drive sustained use, so if just
a few people post a little bit every day and don't give up eventually it'll hit the critical mass required to get these tourists into sustained conversations and growth will take off.
