A California bill that would protect performers from
unauthorized AI-generated digital replicas will head
to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk after being approved in
the state senate this week.
The California Senate passed Assembly Bill 2602 on
Tuesday in a 37 to 1 vote marking a victory for
SAG-AFTRA, the performers union, which pushed for
the legislation’s passing.
The bill requires explicit consent by a performer
for the use of a “digital replica” of their voice
or likeness if its usage replaces work that the
performer could have done in person.
. . .
I thought they had something like this ALREADY ...
there were big strikes a couple of years ago, kinda
ruined whole seasons of shows.
Anyway, YOUR image ... esp as an actor ... is kinda
everything.
As more and more films are more and more 'CGI'
I suppose an actual Law is required. Seems the
union agreements weren't getting it done.
Downside - studios will use fewer and fewer
actual human 'actors'. Even now it's possible
to do convincing 100% CGI feature films. In
a few years it'll be Super EASY. Tomorrows
stars will be digital AI algos- no pay, no
residuals, no prima-donna BS. The Oscars
ought to be interesting ....
