The bad news is, 20th Century Studios are supposedly
planning a Miss Marple film following the success of the two
Kenneth Branagh Hercule Poirot film adaptations... so we'll
see how that turns out. I'm sure it'll look lovely and be
full of big names, it's the 'changes for a modern audience'
that usually throws the spanner in to the works.
Miss Marple will probably be played by a black or asian
trans-person with a missing arm and blind in one eye ... then
it ticks three boxes off the Politically Correct quota
checklist. :-\

You have just described how the BBC would adapt an Agatha
Christie Miss Marple story in the 21sct Century...

Look out!
Talking about looking out...
You especially might be interested in the Netflix adaptation of
Agatha Christie's "The Seven Dials Mystery" that's currently
being filmed... it's been written by a certain Mr Chris Chibnall!
Due on Netflix in 2025 it should be interesting...
I might regret saying this but I am actually looking forward to
it.

I'll take Miss Marple over these modern day sleuths

I think I've seen three different versions of "Miss
Marple" over the years .... or, maybe, the actress
just kept having extreme surgery over time.
Only three?!
That's enough, isn't it??
You can never have enough Agatha Christie dramatisations...
Although I still prefer the Joan Hickson BBC produced
version of the Marple canon to the more recent ITV
'interpretations'.
... and wasn't there a Yank one thrown in there as well??

<shudders> Yes, Helen Hayes.
Please don't mention her again! I try to forget that film.--
Thanks.

That's fine .... cause she's not the person I was (trying to)
refer to!! Angela Lansbury or some such!! Nope, my mistake,
she played "Jessica Fletcher". Same horse, different Name.

1) Angela Lansbury is not American! Maybe half-yank if anything.
2) But did play Miss Marple in a film, which was okay...
although "Murder She Wrote" was a lot better.

Nope. She was born in London in 1925. Her father was British and her
monther was Irish. In 1940, after her father died a few years earlier
and to escape the wartime bombing blitz, Angela (about 15 years old),
her two borthers, and her mother moved to New York, then her and her
mother moved to California in 1942. Some places say her father came
with them to New York, but he died in 1935, so that isn't possible
(other than perhpas ashes in an urn).
2) But did play Miss Marple in a film, which was okay...

"The Mirror Cracked", released in 1980. It also had some big name
actors like Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis. It was meant to
be the first of a trilogy of movies with Lansbury playing Miss Marple,
but the other two weren't made because the first one wasn't successful
at the box office.

I meant to say that Anglea and her husband later moved her family back
to Ireland in 1972, mainly to get her daughter away from bad influences
in Hollyweird.

That's because it wasn't that good... it was an okay film but a
typical example of when the American studios try and do a film
adaptation of a decent novel and hope the big names will carry
the film.
