I have a "Desktop Shortcut" icon on my iPhone 14 screen to Mark Cuban Cost Plus online drug store. They don't have an app. https://www.costplusdrugs.com/

The icon is a "H" which makes no sense. I can edit the shortcut name but
not the icon. Is there any way to change this icon to something else like maybe a pill or prescription bottle?

    Hi badgolferman,

I looked it up for you, so this could be wrong, as what I found was that
the icons for App Store apps are bundled within the app itself by the
developer and are part of the app's core files. iOS doesn't provide a
built-in feature to directly modify these original app icons.

But your icon is created by some other method, right?
And it goes to a web site, right?

So maybe (probably?) you might have used the Shortcuts app to create a
custom icon on your Home Screen that opens the App Store app?

If so, maybe this will help.

Let us know how it works out as I haven't tried this myself on iOS.

I'm guessing you used the Shortcuts app to create a shortcut to Safari
which opens up a specific web page, so these may help for the icon.

    Open the Shortcuts app.
Locate the shortcut for the website.
Tap the three dots (...) on the shortcut.
Tap the icon next to the shortcut's name at the top of the editing screen.
Now you can customize the icon:
Tap a color swatch to change the background color.
Tap the glyph icon to choose a different symbol.
To use a photo as your icon, tap the existing icon again, and you'll see options like "Choose Photo," "Take Photo," or "Choose File." Select your desired image and adjust it as needed.
Tap "Done" in the top right corner of the icon customization options.
Tap "Done" again in the top right corner of the shortcut editing screen.
The icon on your Home Screen for that website shortcut will now be updated.

I hadn't thought of using the Shortcuts app to do this but may give it
    a try.

One "trick" I use to find perfectly tailored icons for web sites is to use
the front page only of an images.google.com search for the perfect icon.

It works surprisingly well, as I have a folder of shortcut icons on
Android, where, say, I put Home Depot, Lowes & Target shortcuts there.

How do I get a perfect icon to distinguish those three shortcuts apart?
Well, their marketing department did all the work already for me.

I use the Windows PC to create the icons and then copy them to the phone.
In fact, I described the process only last week on the Android newsgroup.

Unfortunately previous Shortcuts I've created get broken after
a while for some reason. I had two which switched between 4G and 5G
but they stopped working a few months later.

Yeah. The same thing happens on Android. The reason, at least on Android,
it happens over time is that the shortcut is actually an Intent which is a command to use an app to do something where that Intent has to have an app
that does that something - where if you wipe out the app that created the intent, the intent can fail (or if you wipe out the app that did the work).

It gets complicated if we don't look deeper under the covers, but it gets simple if we follow the exact steps of the creation & use of the shortcut.

There's a recent thread in the Firefox group about some of the issues.
