    SpaceX has unveiled plans for Starbase, Louisiana, described as the largest private spaceport in the world. The site will feature 10 Starship launch
    pads, a massive production facility, and a first launch targeted for 2029.
    The company is committing fully to its Starship program, the largest rocket ever developed.

    SpaceX has been searching for a site capable of supporting a high volume of launches since around 2019. Starbase, Louisiana meets that requirement and will become the newest hub for Starship operations, joining Starbase, Texas, and Floridas Space Coast. The location sits on the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, specifically at Pecan Island.

    Despite its name, Pecan Island is not an island but a small unincorporated community of around 300 people in Vermilion Parish. The low population
    density makes it well-suited for frequent launches, reducing concerns about impacts on property and people, similar to conditions at Boca Chica before SpaceX arrived. Unlike Boca Chica, the area has a strong industrial
    precedent. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry noted during the announcement that the state has a deep history in the energy sector. Pecan Island itself has been linked to the oil and gas industry since the 1950s, serving as a connection point for offshore operations.

    The project will be substantial in both scale and investment. SpaceX plans to invest $100 billion in the site, covering facility development as well as coastal restoration and protection work, comparable to efforts already underway at Starbase, Texas.

    The development is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, with many positions filled by local residents, following the approach used in Texas. Introducing Starbase, Louisiana a high-cadence launch site that will enable Starship to open a pathway to the stars for humanity.

    The entire site spans 125,000 acres, approximately 35,000 acres smaller than the combined footprint of Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. SpaceX
    will control a parcel of land comparable in size to Americas premier spaceport.

    SpaceX intends to make the site self-sustaining, with on-site propellant production and power generation. According to the company, construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the first Starship launch planned for 2029. Initial work will focus on gaining access to the area, restoring wetlands,
    and reinforcing the coastline against ongoing erosion. The need for a dedicated high-capacity spaceport stems from several factors. Starships architecture requires on-orbit refueling for any mission beyond an initial parking orbit, and many planned missions fall into that category.

    These include flights to other planetary bodies such as the Moon, the first destination of NASAs Artemis program. SpaceX holds a contract to provide the Human Landing System for Artemis, which will require multiple tanker and
    depot flights for refueling.

    Estimates for the number of refueling missions per Artemis flight have ranged from 10 to 20. Supporting such operations will be more practical with a total of 15 pads across sites rather than five.

    Starlink missions may not require refueling but will still demand high flight rates. SpaceX has already flown Version 3 satellites on a suborbital trajectory and may attempt a full orbital deployment of v3 Starlinks on the next flight.

    These larger satellites are expected to deliver significant performance
    gains, approximately 10 times the downlink and 22 times the uplink of current versions, and could launch 60 or more at a time on current Starship configurations, potentially reaching 100 on Version 4.

    SpaceX also plans to deploy up to one million orbital data centers as part of its Starmind system. These satellites would operate in sun-synchronous orbit, converting solar energy into electricity to power onboard computing. The resulting AI compute would be transmitted back to Earth via lasers through
    the Starlink network.

    Elon Musk stated last week that SpaceX aims to fly Starship at least 30 times per day by 2030. With 15 launch pads planned, achieving two launches per day per pad remains ambitious but more feasible than higher rates on fewer pads. SpaceX has released provisional renders that illustrate the companys current concept for the site. While these should not be viewed as final designs, they offer insight into the operational approach. To support high launch cadence, SpaceX appears to be replicating successful elements from Starbase, Texas.

    The renders show multiple copies of the double-pad configuration used in Texas. This approach would allow the company to reuse proven designs, materials, and construction methods, effectively enabling mass production of launch sites.

    The renders depict five pairs of launch pads, though additional pads could be added later. Musk has indicated that more than a dozen launch towers are planned. Each pad pair includes its own propellant and deluge tank farms.

    In the background, a production complex resembling the current Starbase,
    Texas facility is visible, with notable differences. The Starfactory appears larger, and the large Starship bay shows three transfer aisles instead of the two found in existing Gigabays, potentially a TeraBay. This would eliminate the need to transport vehicles from Texas while supporting higher production rates and launch cadence. A smaller building adjacent to the production facilities is likely a shipping and receiving structure similar to those at Sanchez.

    Near the pads, a series of buildings could house air separation units and natural gas purification plants to supply the large volumes of propellant required. Alternatively, these structures may represent Tesla Megapacks and power-generation turbines, similar to systems operated by SpaceXAI (formerly xAI) at its Memphis site. Another render angle shows additional buildings farther from the launch pads. These could include employee housing and multi-story parking structures, consistent with facilities already built in Texas. The overall approach appears focused on replicating successful
    elements while refining others.

    One clear improvement is a dedicated transport road for the launch pads, paired with new transporters for Ships and Boosters. These appear to combine the functions of a transport stand and Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) into single vehicles. The designs suggest full autonomy and possible Tesla influence. Renders even show the vehicles approaching pads while launches occur nearby, implying remote or unmanned operations during flight activities. As conceptual images, however, the details remain subject to change.

    Given the planned 2029 start of operations, the Starships depicted in the renders appear to be Version 4 vehicles, identifiable by their height. The booster in the images is shown with only two grid fins rather than three, raising questions about the accuracy of the renders or potential design changes for Version 4. Starship remains central to SpaceXs long-term goal of making life multiplanetary by enabling human missions to Mars. The vehicle
    has evolved through successive concepts, the Mars Colonial Transporter, Interplanetary Transport System, Big Falcon Rocket, and now Starship, while also supporting high-volume Starlink and Starmind deployments.

    In a related development, SpaceX Vice President of Launch Kiko Dontchev announced that no further Starlink missions are scheduled from Florida. The most recent flight marked the final one on the books. Future Starlink
    launches from the region are expected to fly on Starship. This mornings @SpaceX mission from pad 40 was the last planned Falcon 9 Starlink launch

    Some observers may view the decision as premature, given that the first Starship launch from Launch Complex 39A remains months away. Nevertheless, it underscores SpaceXs commitment to Starship as its primary vehicle.

    While other providers continue to develop medium- or heavy-lift, partially reusable systems, Starships fully reusable super-heavy-lift architecture is positioned to transform launch capabilities.
