I've been quietly building something and now it's finally ready.

ssbbss.org - the Secret Society of BBS SysOps - is now live.

It's a certification program for BBS operators. Four ranks: Initiate, Operator, Adept, and Master. Every rank has a curriculum covering the things that actually matter - BBS software, door games, message networks, ANSI art, FidoNet, the history and the law. Study materials are free and open to anyone, no account needed.

When you're ready, you sit the exam. Pass, and you're a certified member. You get a downloadable PDF certificate with a QR verification link, an ANSI badge you can display on your own BBS, and a member ID in the public registry.

Right now there are 98/100 Founding Member spots available. œ99 one-time - that covers all four exam slots, lifetime membership (no annual fees ever), a physical certificate shipped to you, and a low member ID. Once those 100 are gone, they're gone.

Meatlotion, I am a user.
In the1980's the first BBS I joined was a local Commodore BBS another ham radio operator told me about.
Some time later there was a pamphlet found in stores each month that had a BBS List of local BBS's and since I wanted to learn some about Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS I called a GT Power BBS to learn by reading whatwas posted and asking questions.
Also called several local BBS's ran on Apple Ii , Atari systems.
Learned that a Sysop who posted on GT Power also used FIDOnet and join the FIDO BBSthey ran.

Never was a Sysop but once left my computer on running a BBS type program on the Super Snapshot cartridge plugged in my C=64 so I could call it during night shift and upload a IBM PC TXT file tothe home computer so Icould read it while at home.
That wasaround 1993 when I was making plans to have a 486 PC built and run The Online Bible v2.11 that I had got disks for.

That is the closest I ever got to my home computer running BBS type software.

I'm about to head out of town for a week for a music festival near Tampa Florida, but bygolly geewhiz willickers, as soon as I'm back I'm going to look into this with the same kind of seriousness I take in my OSPF and BGP network neighborships at work. Excellent job on getting this going, I am truly excited.
