My web hosting contract with Dreamhost is coming up. I've got an old
Shared Hosting plan that's going up to $13.99/month. I'm looking for a
provider that has support for IMAP/POP/SMTP email, configurable DNS and
can handle 5-10 domains with MySQL databases.

My domains are registered with NameCheap, they have a hosting deal at
around $2.50 a month. I registered for a 30-day trial to see what the
catch is. Looks OK so far, they run a standard cpanel instead of
Dreamhost's custom interface.

Does anyone have a hosting provider you like that's less than what I'll
pay with Dreamhost?

Interesting, I only use VPS's or self host myself, do OVH do what you need? They're my goto for dirt cheap VPS's, maybe they can do what you need too?

Is there a reason to not self-host?

I self-hosted at one point, moved to a shared web host with a control
panel and click-to-install apps. I kinda like knowing I can't break my
primary domain - only someone else can. :)

I have a cheap VPS sitting around I use because I didn't want the deal
to expire - it's $48/year for 20GB of storage, 5 GB memory and 2 CPUs.
I should try setting Wordpress up on it and see how it runs.
