Exploding Lightbulbs

Back in the early years of BBSing there were two books that were on most every elite bulletin board systems. These were The Terrorist's Handbook and The Anarchist Cookbook. They gave step by step description of ways to get into trouble and hurt people. This is an excerpt in paraphrase of those documents.
This idea is that of the exploding lightbulbs. One would put Semtex or C-4 into a lightbulb and when someone entered the vicinity they would (without thinking) turn the light on. This would cause an explosion from the electricity going into the Plastique and causing a massive explosion destroying everything in the area and destroying all evidence completely. The person or people who were entering the room would likewise die from the explosion.

So if you're an explorer, whether the police or urban explorers, you should look out for booby-traps that might blow you to pieces upon entering the area.
Regarding the area of Sp00k weaponry this would be a legitimate concern or implementation. It could be a danger or a very effective weapon. This would be used to secure the building of a spy nest, kit cache, or place that the exposure of documents would be a major threat to the operation of the intelligence cell.

There are plenty of places on the Internet where the development of Semtex is explained in detail so that just about anyone with enough money can develop this sort of thing. The lightbulb can be unscrewed from certain brands of lights, and it is a simple measure of opening the light bulb, filling it with explosives, re-attaching the lightbulb, and your exploding lightbulb will be in place.

I won't be describing the particulars of this weaponry, and am only going over it in brief, as I don't want an actual terrorist using this article to aid in their development of weapons. I'm just noting that it can be done and that it is out there on the Internet. Don't do stupid things. If you make this kit you deserve to get The Man after you. You have been educated while not being given a recipe. Don't be a tool: this is for educational purposes only.

The original "books" had a fair bit of weird stuff like this.

If you had access to enough explosive to do significant damage, you are already in the terrorist world.

The amount described, unconstrained, in a light bulb might generate a damaging boom, but is more in a pyrotechnic level than site erasing demolition level.

Most compounds still require an det cap, being made to burn if merely ignited.

All of the Anarchy "F1leZ" from the 90s included a Napalm Bulb, mixing
gasoline and liquid soap into a light bulb, so when you switch it on,
the mixture ignites. They portrayed one in the original "The Longest
Yard".

I always wondered if that would work, didn't want to verify it IRL.

Imagine if they did something similarly instructive in the movies today?

Cellphones had been targeted for a long time. As were laptops and other larger personal electronic devices.

The page exploit is interesting, as guessing out loud the potting-materials were swapped out for explosives that had been sensitized to explode when the heat of a deliberately overheated battery set them off.

These small batteries, whether consumer or oem-install types, have circuitry, so an ignitor may have been included.
